Our Verdict

Keep in mind you also get additional discounts at Universal Studios if you’re an American Express cardholder, such as 10% off food and beverage and there is a lounge there also. This is also only available on vacation packages, so not nearly as good as a previous deals that worked for tickets as well.

Would this include tickets only?

My wife wants to go to Disney Orlando. Which is the most frugal way?

Most frugal way is to not go and come up with a reason :). Second most is to send her with someone else.

When are you planning to go? The longer until your trip the more options you have. Are you staying on or off property? You also need to balance time and money, if you are willing to spend more time you can save more money.

Time of year is one of the most important factors. A summer or holiday (Christmas/Thanksgiving) trip using tricks and discounts will still cost as much or more then a trip you put on a credit card that is in the low season. Discount tickets can be purchased at sites like undercover tourist stay away from ebay or you will get ripped off. Set realistic expectations, Disney is expensive and if you can save 10-15% you are doing good.

If you have the AMEX offer for Lowes, you can go to Lowes and buy Disney gift cards and get a 10% discount. The gift cards can be used on park tickets, dining, souvenirs, etc. Otherwise, you can buy slightly discounted park tickets at Undercover Tourist.
On the hotel end, if you have Hyatt points, the Hyatt Grand Cypress (12,000 Hyatt points per night) is right outside of Disney World. Their shuttles to the parks aren’t real good so you’d probably need a rental car. If you have Marriott points, look at the Swan or Dolphin hotels. They’re within walking distance of Epcot and Hollywood Studios and use Disney transportation for getting to the parks. If you have Hilton points, there are several Disney Springs hotel options or you can also look at the Hilton Bonnet Creek or Waldorf Astoria. I prefer the Hyatt or Hilton options over the Marriott option because you don’t have to pay resort fees on a all-points stay in either program. If you have Hilton Silver or higher, there’s also the 5th night free benefit on points stays.

The 10% off with Amex says for Hollywood. Have never seen this for Orlando. Please correct me if wrong.
