Amex Offers: 1,000 MR Points with $50 Whole Foods Purchase

The Offer

  • Spend $50 or more at Whole Foods Market with your registered Amex card and receive 1,000 bonus Membership Rewards points.

This offer is showing up on most MR-earning Amex cards, but possibly not all. On my card, it showed up as the very last offer so check all the way until the end.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 10/31/15
  • Valid in-store only
  • You can buy a $50 gift card to trigger the offer credit, but not a phone order for a gift card
  • Limit 1 enrolled Card per American Express online account and limit of 1,000 bonus Membership Rewards points per Card

Our Verdict

This is a really great offer for Whole Foods users. You can also buy a $50 Whole Foods gift card and resell it for 88% of its value. You’ll get $44 on the sale and it will cost you $6 for 1,000 MR points – a good deal.

It should work to use the multi-tab trick and save the offer on multiple MR-earning cards and it should work to save the offer on authorized user cards and get the 1,000 points per card. Note, however, that the terms exclude these things as noted above in the Fine Print. UPDATE: Reportedly, the multi-tab trick does not work for these MR-earning offers.

It’s interesting to see Amex rolling out more of these MR bonus offers, versus the standard cashback offer. There’s also an offer at Saks to get 6,000 MR with a $400 purchase.

Used the multiple-tab trick to add this to both of my MR cards. Got 1000 MR for each, plus another 1000 from an AU’s card.

Do we need to spend $50 in one visit or over time?

It depends on the wording of the offer. And I believe in this one it can be cumulative.

(Although I normally do it in one shot to avoid problem.)

I got it on two personal cards – Platinum and Everyday. It loaded on both with multitab. I’ll go today to buy a gc with each and see what happens. I shop at Whole Foods pretty often, so I would spend $50 anyway. If they don’t give me the second 1000 MRs at least I’ll get the grocery bonus on my Everyday.

Did not get it on any business cards (Platinum and Gold) or the Everyday card I’m an AU on my daughter’s acct. Obviously not on any SPG cards or Costco.

I have this on all my MR cards luckily.
I’m now separating them into different accounts.

I went today and they only carry whole foods GC, nothing else.
I’m in Northern California. Not sure about other stores.

Haven’t been to WF in a long time, are there other giftcards there?

This wouldn’t work with the united app, right? Because the transaction wouldn’t be processed by whole foods?

It’s in-store only so even if it’s processed by whole foods I don’t think it would help.

I am staying away from these MR offers using the multi-tab trick. I did the same thing for the Saks offer was only given the bonus on one of my cards.

I got the points (pending) with the Saks offer on both of my primary accounts as well as one alternate user.

Interesting.

My two primary cards are on the same account but they were on separate accounts at the time I added the offer. I wonder if that makes a difference.

Not on my BRG or my mom’s. 🙁 Lots of these Amex offer only seem to go to those with personal cards.
