Our Verdict
Offer appears to have been widely sent out, I’m seeing it on all my cards. Pretty nice discount if you have a stay coming up, especially nice for business travel.
In the past, it’s worked if you buy a gift card at the front desk of the hotel, despite the terms indicating otherwise. This helps expand the offer to work at any Marriott as the gift card can be used anywhere. Beware, however, that in my experience many hotels don’t have gift cards or don’t know how to sell them; often a manager can come in and help.

Just called W Hotel Union Square (NYC) and they confirmed they sell physical gift cards. Will be going in to pick one up before the offer expires this wk.
Went to both Ritz Carlton and JW Marriot in NYC, both told me to go online, they do not sell physical cards..
See if they have a gift shop. I called a non-NYC Ritz and they said go online. I called again and they transferred me to the gift shop. They told me to come on in. Purchased a $500 GC and it triggered the success email. Maybe explain you need a physical card as a present.
Quick question…hoping one of you can help: the JW Marriott sells hotel gift cards thru their spa..does anyone know if this triggers the credit? Normally, I’m all about being a DP but don’t want to spend $500 in this situation to find out the hard way.
Any thoughts or ideas?
Luxury Collection hotels have Marriott GCs.
Which specific hotels do you know sell GCs?
The Chatwal in NYC definitely does not.
Had you asked the GM?
The front desk asked the manager on duty and was told they don’t carry them; I don’t think the GM was asked directly.
Last time, I got one from Hotel Ivy, Minneapolis.
Any recent data points on this working to buy a gift cards at the Front Desk? Also, do I actually have to be staying at the property when I buy the gift card or can I just drive over to a Marriott and buy the GC at the front? I have a stay coming up at a Las Vegas Marriott Vacation Club and would love to find a way to take advantage of this deal!
I’ve done the drive-over idea with other Marriott offers. Just keep in mind what we mentioned in the post that it might not pan out if they don’t know how to sell gift cards.
Purchased a $500 GC at the Ritz and it triggered the email.
Got this offer on my brilliant card. Recent anniversary hit. Wondering if I can buy a $500 gift card at one of these properties and get $100 off with amex offer, $300 with brilliant marriott credit and $25 off $25 offer on my amex account for recent renewal. $500 gift card for $75 would be a sweet deal.
I can confirm the $300 Brilliant credit will stack with the AMEX Offer. I did this a few months ago (when I had a spend $200 get $40 back offer on my Brilliant card). Spent $300, then got a $300 credit and an additional $40 credit for the Amex Offer. It’s pretty sweet.
It annoys me how often these offers are only valid in the US (or in this case, North America) — I don’t understand why they aren’t at properties worldwide.
Portland has one Luxury Marriott property ATM but they are building a Ritz. So I think I may call to see if they have GC (as well as check a few other locations and may pick up a few empties that can be loaded).
Have the offer on almost all our cards but also on our Biz Bonvoy cards so 2,400 Bonvoy points as well as $400 toward $500 stays but on the fence with Marriott.
Luxury Collection hotels do have Marriott GCs. Although I was able to get one around 11:30 PM, it’s safer to visit when the General Manager would be present.
The one I called did not, so it doesn’t seem to be standard across Luxury Collection hotels.
I got this on my lowly ED, SPG card and Green.

Got a mailer yesterday about the offer
SWEEEET! Just in time! Staying at a JW next week for a week long vacation. Can probably split the charges and use it multiple times (once on my card and once on the wife’s). Perfect timing.
Lucky you!
