[Update- Showing Again] AmEx Offers: Spend $3,000, Get $5,500 (Typo Offer)

Update 2/2/22: These offers are showing again. It was honored for some people last time, so save ASAP. Must complete spend by 12/31/22.

Update 12/18/21: Multiple people are reporting getting these offers credited in full. Wow!

Reader Brenda comments: It was a system glitch with the algorithm that creates these targeted, personalized offers. Honest mistake. Amex legal team is discussing what to do about the credits. You may get a “good will” credit, or you may get lucky and get the full credit. Spend at your own risk.

Original Post:

Lots of people are reporting seeing an AmEx Offer which says something like:

  •  Spend $1,000 and get $1,000 back, can be done 3x
  • Spend $3,000 and get $5,500 back, can be done 3x

These offers are obviously not meant to be. It’s part of the targeted points offers being sent out to some, such as ‘spend $1,000 and get 1,000 points’. This cash version is supposed to be ‘spend $1,000 and get $10’, but they mistakenly put out ‘get $1,000’.

I’m unsure on the legal end if they are required to honor typos. Something tells me they won’t honor this.

I just realized I had a $500 off $500 offer, which expires 3/13/2022. I just made a purchase, but I didn’t get congratulation email. Can anyone got credit from this offer share if you got congratulations email ? Since the offer is for 3 time use, I am not sure if I should go ahead make the purchase for the rest of the two. Or am I too late?

Thanks in advance.

“Must complete spend by 12/31/22.”
Spend is 90 days once added not 12/31

Thank you Amex, for the generous offer of ‘Spend $24,000+, get 6,000MR points’!

slightly OT, is it still necessary to add/clear out all the garbage offers onto a card in order for fresh, new awesome offers to appear on cards (limit 100 showing a real number) or is that not a thing anymore?

How do you clear those offers? How do you remove them?

it used to be the case that you had to add garbage offers to a little used card in order to break the offer logjam and allow new offers to populate all your cards; just not sure if this is still the case, or if all offers will now show and amex allows 100+ offers to appear all at once on any of the cards they may be on.

I use this to automatically add all the garbage offers.

Lol was just thinking the other day I should get back into the Amex ecosystem in case something like this happens again. Then decided against it since I assumed it would never come back.

Cool beans.

It’s on cash back cards, not MR-earning cards
