Our Verdict

Let’s look at your profit if you purchase a $75 gift card for Gap:

You’d be making $10 profit per card and also earning credit card points. Selling rates for Gap have been slowly dropping, but there are still three companies paying 80% so as long as you sell quickly you should be OK. Probably not worth doing if you only have a few American Express cards, but for those with lots this quickly adds up.

If you’re new to gift card reselling, please read this first.

Bought $100 worth of clothes for essentially $0

$25 Amex statement credit for spending $75
$50 Gap cash for spending $100 (must be spend soon)
$25 STAPLES promo code for $25 off $50

I know $50 Gap cash isnt the same money in your pocket, but still a pretty good deal

it’s more like – spent $50 for $100 of clothes and $50 off a future $100 Gap purchase (the Gap cash is $50 off $100+)

The Gap Amex Sync signup closed earlier today. I’m stunned that it lasted that many days. Although it’s not as good as the Staples and OD deals I missed out on it’s still a pretty good deal.

What if you buy clothes or other items and return it for refund 20 days later? Can Amex claw back?

Seriously? I mean taking advantage of this whole “incentive marketing” system buy flipping giftcards is one thing but taking the merchants’ and Amex’s money AND screwing them with returned merchandise is something I wouldn’t like to see happening here…

Can’t get an offer on Save Ya right now. Not taking sales of Gap cards, apparently.

Who pays 80% for GAP? The best rate I see is 75% although I’d more likely go with ABC but they only pay 72%…

Ok thanks. Seems like I’ll have to hold on to these a little longer. When I receive GCs in the mail from SVM I usually ship them out the very next morning 😉

I bet this offer will inundate the gift card market with GAP cards effectively lowering the payout for sellers below 80% in short time. For example, same thing happens on Amazon when they have a lightning deal. Hordes of sellers buy an item then resell almost immediately. With the increased supply and competition, some sellers get desperate and start lowering their price. This leads to an avalanche of price lowering. Great for buyers, but that’s not our position here.

The direct link takes you to a pottery barn offer, not a gap offer.

There is also a $25 off $50 offer online or in store when you use promotion code: STAPLES. I got this printout on a checkout receipt at Staples. It does not work on GCs. However, if you have a valid purchase then you can add $100 worth of stuff, then apply coupon code STAPLES to get $25 off to get your price of $75. Pay with AmEX and get another $25 off. This way you can get $100 worth of GAP merchandise at 50% discount.

Just wanted to share.

To optimize, I would buy a gift card for $75 and get back $25. Then with the GC i can make 3 purchases of $25 off $50 effectively buying $150 worth of stuff for $50.

66.67% discount.

How can I get this $25 off on $50 coupon?

Really sucks it doesn’t qualify for outlets. I’d have to drive 50 min away to get to a non-outlet Gap.

Could be worthwhile depending on how Amex cards you have

Yes, but wouldn’t it be possible to spend the $75 on a GC at a regular GAP, then use the GC at an outlet? Or even at an Old Navy? That is my plan since prices at the outlet are way cheaper…

Gap gift cards can be used at any of the Gap brand stores including Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Piperlime and Athleta. Pretty good deal…stock up on GCs, wait for 40% to 50% off at BR, buy online through portal for cash back….and pay with 33% off GC. What am I missing?

My intention was to buy gift cards and resell them. If I want in on this deal I’ll have to go to a location about an hour away. I might do it though as I have 18 cards between my wife and I, so it’s $180 + cc points gross profit. We’ll see though, have to have my mom come watch our daughter to escape that long for a date day (our 1 year old HATES the car).
