Our Verdict

We’ve reviewed Rocketmiles before (and their competitors, PointsHound & Kaligo and even compared the three), they are a hotel booking website that gives you airline miles rather than hotel points. The downside is you don’t receive elite stay credits and your status isn’t usually recognized.

They are also usually more expensive than booking direct, but with an effective discount of 25% they should be much cheaper. One of the good things about Rocketmiles is they offer generous bonuses for your first booking, they currently have the following offers:

25% discount (probably more like 10-15% when comparing to booking direct) plus 3k miles + whatever miles you get for the booking is a pretty good deal. It’s a shame you can only get the first booking bonus once though.

My experience: Rocketmiles had the best price (by $50) on the Doubletree I wanted in Chicago. Booked with them and got the AMEX offer. Later, I booked direct with Hilton and submitted a Best Price Guarantee claim. Today I got an email saying that they will honor the price, and in addition I get a $50 AMEX gift card and all the other bonuses of booking direct and 6x pts with my Hilton Visa! I expect that I will lose the Amex credit but will let you know.

Can you use the multi tab function on amex offers for this? Would be great if I could do 2 nights on 1 card and 2 nights on another!

Some of Rocketmiles’ prices are daylight robbery. I saw a $30 hotel on Orbitz and Expedia showing up for $270 on Rocketmiles. Granted it came with 8,000 miles per night, but definitely check your prices before booking!

I got a promo code from Southwest for an extra 5000 miles. It says it is targeted, but the 5000 miles would show up in the reservation before you pull the trigger if it works. You might have to use the app to use the code SRR5000

Can you cancel or postpone the reservation?

Each rocketmiles res is different I think…some say you can cancel them..but I am not sure how it would affect the amex credit if you moved it etc.
