Apple eBooks Antitrust Settlement – Check To See If You’re Eligible (Up To $6.93 Per eBook)

Back in November 2014 a federal court approved a settlement for an antitrust lawsuit against Apple in regards to the price of electronic books. If you purchase Kindle books between April 1, 2010 and May 21, 2012 then you might have a settlement available to you.  In total Apple is liable for $450 million, $400 million will be paid out to customers. The rebate you receive is as follows:

  • $6.93 for every New York Times best seller
  • $1.57 for every other book

This settlement is supposed to be for twice the losses customers incurred. The books have to be from one of the following publishers: Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins Publishers, Macmillan (Holtzbrinck Publishers), Penguin Group and Simon & Schuster. They also need to be purchased from one of the following retailers: Amazon.com Inc., Barnes & Noble Inc., Kobo Inc. and Apple.

Those included retailers are supposed to issue e-mails to affected customers and put the credits automatically into their accounts. Below you can see how to check your balance with Amazon. We’ll add something similar for other companies if they provide it.

To see if you have any available credit from this settlement go here and log in. Apparently you don’t actually need to do anything and the credit automatically shows up in your account. The credit will expire on June 24th, 2017 and is funded by Apple.

Our Verdict

Good to see that this settlement is being automatically issued, let me know if you received any credits in the comments.
