[Expired] Apply for a new Target REDcard Debit/Credit and Get $40 off $40 Shopping Trip + $4 In SB

Deal has expired, view more Redcard deals by clicking here.

Update 7/14/19: Go through Swagbucks and get another $4 in Swagbucks. Hat tip to reader Money

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Get a coupon for $40 off a $40 qualifying purchase when you are approved for a debit or credit REDcard in-stores and at Target.com now through July 27th, 2019

Our Verdict

Normal offers are $50 off $150+  or $35 off $70. This is a slightly smaller discount than the $50 deal, but obviously only the $40 spending requirement. It’s just better in all aspects to the $35 deal. Probably only useful if you’d struggle to hit the $150 minimum normally. Keep in mind Target will have Target deal days as well starting tomorrow.

Credit card hard pull and debit not?

I’m wondering the same. I’d imagine the debit would not be a hard pull making this very worthwhile?

Credit card definitely is a hard pull. My fiance got that card, and the inquiry showed up on CreditKarma.

Dont wanna waste one slot of 5/24 for $40. Go for debit version? Any advice?

Shawn

If you apply for the debit card you will get the coupon with no hard pull if that’s the question

Zac
Zac

Thanks. That answered my question. Considering getting the debit version. Given debit card is connected to a checking account, no fraud protect is my main concern.

This is why I have a checking account with Discover, aside from my main checking account with another institution, for linking to things that require a bank account. I only keep a few hundred dollars at most in it, and, worst-case scenario, their customer service is U.S.-based, available, 24/7, and is really good.

Do you know if they are Chex sensitive? . I applied for a Red debit card and got this email:

Thank you for applying
Your application is being reviewed. You should receive a response by mail within 7–10

No, it’s not an actual account, you connect your bank to it and it ACH’s out to settle up.

I just applied and got the same response. I’m hoping that is a generic response and it is approved tomorrow sometime.

The language in the offer states they can pull consumer reports for debit version. Of course not a hard pull, but Chex?
Does anyone has experience with Target debit? Chex is a no-no to me

Called Target, they said no Chex for debit card. Still weird some people get 7-10 days message..

I signed up for a debit Redcard a few weeks ago with no bonus. Stupid me, I didn’t realize they offered bonuses for the debit version. Well, I guess I will try canceling and signing up again for a free $40.

Cancelled my RedCard on the 14th to take part in this offer. Signed up again today, instantly approved. Also went through Swagbucks for the extra 400 SB.

applied for debit card just now. did the instant bank verification with bank login. approved instantly. given card # instantly.

my credit score is about 740. probably about 15 new bank accounts so far this year, about 25 new bank accounts last year, nol sure which used chex though. i think i have about 8 chex inquiries, but not positive.

for credit cards, i have about 9 hard inquiries on each/all bureaus over the past 2 years, but all of them were more than 12 months ago except one.

not sure how much of this pertains to a target debit card application, but in reading the comments, i see a lot of people were given 7-10 day info. not sure if it is that they applied for the credit card option or debit card, or what their chex report looks like, or their credit score so just thought i’d put my dp out there for comparison.

i liked the $40 off $40 better than all the other past offers, because i would have a hard time coming up with $150 worth of stuff for target, plus i think they are overpriced for groceries compared to couponing etc and not only that target is about 40 minutes from where i live, so i dont really go there much. however, for $40 off $40, i’m just gonna order a bunch of chips/snacks for lunches, and it will all be free except the little bit that is overage above $40 and the tax. so it wont matter if it’s over priced or not, since it will all be free!!! yaaayyyyy!!! after i get my stuff, i’m gonna close it again, and wait to churn it again.

Interesting, I have similar history to you. I think it could be because of address verification. I had to put two address since I’ve lived at my current address less than a year. I applied for the debt card.

yes, that might be right. i’ve lived at my address for 5 years.

Is there any way to get the debit card without giving them your SSN? Don’t really trust Target with it.
