Bank Of America Converting Spirit Airlines Cards To Customized Cash Rewards ($250 Bonus & 2% Extra Cash Back On All Purchases For Some)

Bank of America has sent out an e-mail to existing Spirit Airlines cardholders informing them that their card will be converted to a Customized Cash Rewards.

What To Know

  • A new card will be sent out, you can continue to use your existing card until the new one arrives
  • They are adding a $250 cash rewards bonus to accounts (some accounts)
  • You’ll also earn an additional 2% cash back on all purchases through September 30, 2026 (some accounts)
  • Your account number, APR, and credit line will not change. No foreign transaction fees will continue to apply (normally this card has 3% FTF)

Card Details

Customized cash has the following details:

  • No annual fee
  • Card earns at the following rates (you get an additional 2% until September 30, 2026):
    • 3% cash back on your choice of one category, up to $2,500 in spending each quarter
      • Gas category now includes EV charging stations
      • Online shopping category now includes cable, streaming, internet, and phone plan
      • Dining
      • Travel
      • Drug store/pharmacy
      • Home improvement/furnishings
    • 1% cash back on all other purchases

Our Verdict

It looks like the $250 bonus is for accounts that weren’t able to earn the sign up bonus on the Spirit Airlines card. Not sure if everybody is eligible for the 2% extra cash back. Bank of America did offer annual fee refunds on the Spirit card, but only if you asked. Given the Spirit Airlines card came with a 65,000 point bonus $250 isn’t great but better than nothing. It is absolutely crazy to me that the Spirit shut down at the start of May and Bank of America is only address cardholders now.
