Early warning services is a similar specialty nationwide consumer reporting agency to ChexSystems. It’s mainly used in determining if you should be approved or denied for deposit accounts, one thing a financial institution might look at is the number of recent inquiries you have on EWS report. We thought it would be useful that do and don’t pull your Early Warning Services report. We have a similar list for ChexSystems. Please contribute additional datapoints in the comments so we can continue to improve this resource page, also let us know if you’ve been denied for an account due to too many EWS inquiries.

In 2024, First Horizon reports account status to EWS as “FIRST TENNESSEE BANK” even though they changed names years ago. No EWS inquiry was done, maybe because I am a past customer?
CFG Bank did not do an inquiry on my EWS report when opening an additional account, nor do they report the status. (Original account opening they did do an inquiry)
Noticed my EWS report shrunk by about 10 pages in the last 6 months, down to 56. Some of the older accounts have fallen off, but seems each bank may set the time limit for the entries to disappear because it doesn’t seem consistent. Oldest “Date of Last Status Change” I found was March 2020 (thanks PNC) on an account closed at that time. I didn’t do a side by side because I cannot control their purge anyway.
Another oddity, my Discover accounts have been closed since 2017 but they are pushing new status change dates, last updated in 2022. Likely keeping it fresh because they banned me, even though nothing derogatory is showing in the entry. Also, not sure why U.S. Bank is pulling EWS every month. I assume promotional.
P2 recently got denied by PNC Bank due to EWS Report. We were both quite surprised because I’ve opened/closed significantly more accounts and have never had an issue which leads me to suspect there’s something inaccurate on the report. We both sent requests for our reports about 2 weeks ago and haven’t heard back yet, does anyone know the timeframe on receiving the report?
Two weeks is not unheard of. IIRC, they ask if you want the report by mail, which would add to the time. You could call and ask for a status.
PNC is “oddly” EWS sensitive. I say oddly because they are not consistent – some people have no issues, and others do, with similar EWS reports. You probably won’t find any issues on your report. Capital One is another.
What do the numbers 1 thru 5 stand for?
Number of data points this website decided to collect. Sometimes there are many more and there’s no need to reproduce effort. Banks rarely change their collection methods.
American Express checking acct (personal) reports to EWS. Don’t see an inquiry though. Existing CC holder. Not sure about biz accounts.
I see some of my previously reported banks, like Comerica, did not get added to the DoC post.
Biz gets reported to business Chex account. We had a discussion under BMO Harris Business checking account regarding how to get the report (have to call or send letter with basic information)
I pulled EWS after being denied by Chase. Inquiries are listed below:
JP Morgan Chase – 3/11/24
Fifth Third Bank – 2/15/24
Upgrade Inc, via GIACT Services – 2/3/24
Branch Banking and Trust – 12/27/23
BB&T 12/24/23
Truist hit me twice because of course they did, and I now realize Upgrade does not pull, but they did take a while to verify an external account I tried to link so that’s where that came from.
Of note, TD Bank was also recently opened and has reported status and transaction activity but no inquiry is listed for them.
And Discover Bank reports status but no transactions, but I have had this account for over 3 years.
Delta CCU pulls EWS.
Presidential pulls EWS.
CapEd pulls EWS.
Seeing this is kind of infuriating as I forgot about them declining me 3 years ago.
Nokomis pulls EWS.
TBK pulls EWS.
