Earlier today we posted about a new deal on the Arrival+, you can currently get 60,000 points after $5,000 in spend within the first 90 days with the annual fee waived first year. Previously this card had the same deal without the annual fee waived. I said that I doubted that Barclays would match those who recently signed up for the card without the annual fee waived to the annual fee waived offer, but that it was worth a try anyway. Reader Duke reports that they were able to successfully call in and get the offer matched. Perhaps importantly their annual fee has not posted yet, normally when Barclays matches it needs to be within 30 days of signing up for the card so I’m not sure if that will be the case this time around or not. Either way it never hurts to ask, please feel free to share your own data points in the comments below.
Approved end of August $89 fee posted and paid. Called in first week October to be matched and CR after a hold said OK but would take up to 60 days to get a refund and gave me a case #. I’m not 100% convinced yet but we’ll see.
Applied and approved on 8/31. Got the annual fee waived today (9/27) thru SM.
My wife applied for the Arrival about 6 weeks ago, we just finished the spend, no luck getting the AF waived
applied.. got pending.. called recon.. they wanted me to fax my drivers license and social card.. anyone have this experience before??
Yeah just do it. Identity verification, will be approved shortly after.
Got the annual fee waived. Called the number on the back of my Arrival+ card. I was approved on August 29th so got it in just-in-time. While on the call she mumbled something about 29th…. 24th..25th… so I think she did calculate the days.
I also was approved on August 29th. Tried calling twice today and was shot down both times on getting annual fee waived. Not sure what I did differently…
That’s very interesting…. What I said was – I got the card like three weeks ago, I found out the new and better offer, could you match? She put me on hold and submitted a case of something, mumbled about the dates and got the case number for me. Not sure what could you have done differently….
one more DP of matching … today my friend was able to get statement credit for annual fee for the card applied a week before …
Signed my wife up for the card in July. Sent a secure message tonight asking for the fee to be waived and got a response saying we needed to call. She’ll probably do that tomorrow.
Signed up in (early) July and called today–they said it has been too long and they only match if it is a recent change.
Same, called twice but no go, applied in July too.
Same. Opened late July. Told me I had to downgrade to no-annual fee Arrival and I would receive no annual fee going forward.
Call to match this offer (with annual fee waive). They said they can’t change the term but are willing to give credit back once paid the annual fee.
Thanks. I’ll try to ask for a match via secure message.
I applied/was approved about 3 weeks ago..
Related data point regarding Barclays and matching: I signed up for their Aviator Business card when the offer was 50k. 29 days later, they raised it to 60k. I sent a secure message requesting a match, and they never responded. I tried calling, but the rep told me they don’t match. I asked him to please note my account that I had requested it anyway.
On the next statement, they gave me 20k extra AA miles with no explanation.
What no did you call? I have messaged but no luck and called the no. on back of card, but losers have not done anything YET………
Andy, I called the number on the back of the card.
I also asked to be matched and after reading your comment checked my account. The AA app did not have the updated amount but when I logged into my card account noticed a 20k “adjustment”. So we basically got 70k for one purchase!
Just checked my AA account–I got the same 20k adjustment. I sent a SM and later called once.
did the same…no extra miles yet…let’s see…
I requested a match via SM as well. They never responded and nor did I receive any extra bonus miles.
I asked three times and they gave me only 5k miles. The last time a few years ago they strung me out for the arrival+ card. I am pissed at Barclays.
Citibank on the other hand is very generous with matching.
