Best American Express Green Sign Up Bonus (15,000/25,000 Points + 20,000 From Referral)

Update 1/8/19: It seems you can only get the 25,000 offer to show up when using incognito mode and the regular link. The best offer when using a referral link seems to be 15,000 points. Thanks to all the readers for pointing this out in the comments and apologies for the original inaccurate information.

Earlier today we shared a rumor of potential changes being made to the American Express green card. When other cards have been refreshed (e.g business gold & personal gold) the sign up bonus has decreased after the refresh. It’s important to understand that there is no gaurantee that these changes will happen and it’s also possible that when the card relaunches the bonus will improve. All that being said the best current bonus is as follows:

  • 25,000 points after $1,000 in spend within the first three months. Annual fee of $95 waived first year

To get this offer you need to use incognito mode. Remember it’s also possible to get these incognito mode offers when using a referral link. So you could use a self referral (or get a friend/family member to refer you) for up to an extra 15,000 points. Please do not share your referral links in this post.

Not really any more tips. It’s very YMMV and dependent on browsers used, location etc. People on reddit have had luck using a VPN as well and trying different locations.

I used to consistently pull it on the Samsung Browser on my phone for example and on Firefox but there is no guarantee that would work for you.

I self-referred from my old Business Gold Reward card(BGR) for 20000 MR. Best offer was 15000 points with 1000 spend in 3 months. Got instant approval(no popup) and card number also.

what are thoughts on applying now vs after revamp? you’d lock in the lower annual fee if the price goes up, but i’d like to think that there’s a good chance the newer card would come with a bonus of greater than 15k (plus the referral bonus)

Daniel the last two refreshes haven’t yielded higher bonuses, only higher AF, along with dropping the first year waived.

Given personal and biz gold, I’d do it now. I got in front of both of those and just got in front of this one.

Can someone explain what BGR is, since see I mentioned in some comments (as well as BRG, which I assume is a typo)?

Also, I took a look at the card and other than the 25,000 bonus MR cards, what exactly is the draw to this card? Am I missing something that would make me want to use it after the bonus points?

MisterBill to your first question, the BGR, (Business Gold Rewards) is an Amex business card that gives 20k MR per referral. I also call it a BRG, which is the incorrect acronym. It think it’s a hold over from the PRG (Premiere Reward Gold) personal card.

As to your second question, with a referral from the BGR, 20k, and the card itself, 15k, you’ll net 35k MR total for a 0 AF, before the possiable changeover. If history is correct, every AMEX refresh recently has dropped the “first year AF waived” when signing up.

Folks just want to get in before that happens as AMEX has a once in a lifetime bonus clause.

Thanks. So basically the draw is the signup bonus without an annual fee, not necessarily any great benefit of the card.

MisterBill Yes, in it’s current form, it’s only good for the signup.

So undecided, have a BRG for a 20k + 15k referral I could do 2X between the wife and I, will be coming up under 5/24 in March. Sitting on a pile of MR/UR right now, but I have FOMO on this offer.

Decisions, decisions.

No bite for me, directly or via referral, regular or incognito mode, different browsers. Only shows 5K with 20k referral from BGR or 15k referral from other cards…………..anyone clinched the 20K referral + 25k Green deal?

Leslie I can pull the 15k from the BGR referral (20k) every time.

Any clue how I can replicate what you are doing to get it to show up? Browser and how to open details if specific? Thanks in advance, Dear

Leslie Just pulled it up again on my IPhone with iOS,I went under my BGR, clicked “links you may like” at the bottom of the page. Clicked “refer a friend”, scrolled over to my BGR, then copied the link at the bottom. Put that link in my Safari browser, it sends me to the referral page, then I click “looking for personal card?” link and scroll down to the Green card 15k option.

Thanks But Personal card? Or Business card for this? Confused 😐 now

Correction…..I was able to pull up personal green for 15k with your guidance…..AND I was, all this time, looking at Business Green which shows 5k….. my bad

Leslie If you create a referral from your BGR, put that in your browser, it will send you to a referral page that contains business cards. There’s a link right before the first card on that page that reads “looking for a personal card?” When you click that link it’s still using the referral link, but shows personal card available, that’s where you’ll find the 15k Green card and you’ll get 20k referral for your BGR.

To be clear, the Business Green card is 5k, that’s not the one being discussed here, follow my directions above to navigate to the personal version.

However applying for Personal green for 15k (shows as 25k without referral link) means taking one inquiry report hit in respect to Chase 5/24…… not worth it for only 15/25K bonus right? Experts what y’all say?

Leslie That’s my thinking as well, but Amex is once in a lifetime bonus, so considering the new refresh will most likely drop the “AF waved first year” language, and increase the initial AF, it’s kind of a now or never for me personally. I’ll most likely pass, even though it would be 15k+20k total for me. No redemption in mind and I can get MR’s(albeit slower) without burning a slot.

Did the 55k per year limit for BGR referrals reset on 1/1/19?
