Chase has four Southwest cobranded cards available for signup: one business card and three personal (Plus, Premier, Priority). Until a few days ago, all four cards had a public 60,000 points bonus available. The business version still has a public 60,000 points offer available – that’s basically the standard offer on that card – but the personal cards bonus just went down from 60,000 to 40,000. The landing page is still there, but the links error out.
There are now three options to signup for the personal cards:
- Public offer of 40,000 points after $1,000 in spend. (Plus, Premier, Priority)
- Same 40,000 points offer is available via referral, and the referrer will get 10,000 points as well. If you’re in two-player mode, you’ll end up with 50,000 points collectively which isn’t bad. (Just keep in mind the tax implications on the referral bonus.)
- There’s a link to signup from which is really meant for use in-flight on Southwest flights which offers 50,000 points after $2,000 in spend. There’s hasn’t been any discussion on these links for the past couple of months given the public 60k offers, but with the public offers down, these become relevant again. Presumably these still work, but as always, use at your own risk.
It’s not the best time to signup for these cards now for Companion Pass timing, but if you are signing up these are the options.
For the business card, it’s the same 60,000 points bonus on $3,000 spend both via the public link and via referral. When you use a referral, the referrer will get 10,000 points as well. Chase now allows referrals across all of the Southwest family, so, for example, if you have the Southwest Plus card, you can refer your spouse to the Southwest business card.
