The Fine Print

  • Open your 360 Money Market account starting July 10, 2018 and deposit at least $10,000 between July 11, 2018, and 11:59 p.m. ET on December 14, 2018.

  • If you have or have had a savings product with Capital One after January 1, 2016, you won’t be eligible for the bonus.
  • Bonus offer is not valid for multiple accounts.
  • If you qualify for a bonus, Capital One will deposit the bonus money into your account within 60 days after completing the above conditions.
  • Once it’s deposited, the funds will be available immediately. Account must be in good standing (not in default, closed, or suspended, or otherwise not in good standing).
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Our Verdict

Cumulative deposits in the past has worked (e.g depositing and withdrawing $1,000 10 times), not sure if it will work this time as the terms are slightly different (update, they do work). They have offered a previous bonus only requiring a deposit of $1,000 so it might make sense just to wait for a better offer to come along. Given that cumulative deposits work this shouldn’t be a huge issue though.  I’ve added this to the best savings account bonuses now that the targeted language has been removed.

Thanks Will!
Would anyone know whether we can get this bonus again? some of these Capital One checking/savings/mma products have been once a lifetime bonuses.

“If you have or have had a savings product with Capital One after January 1, 2016, you won’t be eligible for the bonus.”

Ah right I missed that. Thanks!

My dinosaur age ING account now 360 saving account excludes me from this offer 🙁

How did you find that out?

If I cannot remember whether or not I had an account after Janurary 2016, how would I find out?

See if you have any bank statements or look at your income taxes to see if you reported earned interest from Capital One? Call them to see if they have a record of when you closed your account?

Search your emails?

Get your Early Warning report:

Mine has my Cap One 360 account close date.

Blasted… I just opened the $100 cap w mms promo and transferred 10k 😞 time for player 2 to get $200

I think I opened a Cap One 360 checking account last year and received a $300 bonus. Based on the language it would seem that I might be eligible for this since checking seems to be separate?

Yes you are good based off the language in the terms. But untill we get DP’s you cannot be 100% sure.

stinks that they say that about any savings product. I’d open a MM but I have a 360 savings.

I never received the bonus from a promotion that was running over the winter/spring. Is there a way to contact CapOne online? All I’ve found are phone numbers.

I think you’re referring to the same promotion i tried to get in on… low deposits requirement so i went for it, but nothing posted. Searched forever for a chat/SM option to no avail so called in and they searched but stated i was not targeted ap i closed the account.

Definitely targeted?

So I called the bank… because I had trouble linking an account after I opened the account. The agent gave me some data which is conflicting (as usual)

First he said the $10,000 must be deposited within 10 days of the account opening, but they do give a 5 extra day grace period. I said woah the promo says by 31 Aug. He said no it doesn’t, it says the account needs to be opened by then. (Note – after I got off phone I re-read terms on promo page closely and it says “Open your 360 Money Market account starting July 10, 2018 and deposit at least $10,000 no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on August 31, 2018.” so I guess that throws it all into question until we get more DP.

He said the 10k does not need to be all in one deposit (can be culmative) but it needs to all get there within the 10 days.

So if you want to be safe do it right away. But that does not give you much time to shuffle in and out and in especially with most banks requiring a few days to clear larger sums of $.

Also – a bit of a side note- if you have a pre-paid cell phone like tracfone or straight talk or whatever, you cannot easily link an account to Capitol 1 360 after you open the account so make sure to do it when you are opening the account.

Well I guess I’m gonna be the DP I wanna see and try opening this for the bonus even tho I currently have a savings with 360. Wish me luck, will update when available.

Any updates here?

It is not possible no bonus for me 🙁

Can this be use by someone who never had an account with Capital One and who didn’t receive an email invite?

Judging by the layout of their website, I would take a guess that Roth IRA Savings is a ‘Savings’ product, so no go for me.

I received this offer in the mail/email and I remember all the other bonuses that I didn’t qualify for because I got a ING direct bonus once a long time ago. It doesn’t mention this specifically in the fine print for this offer though and I was wondering if the old ING direct disqualification is still being enforced as I don’t want to waste my time if I’m not going to get the bonus anyway. If anyone knows please post thanks.

I also got an ING direct bonus ages ago. I called Cap One and asked about it. They told me that having received an ING bonus would not prevent someone from being eligible for the Cap One bonus as long as there wasn’t a Cap One account open on or after Jan. 1, 2016. Hope this helps.

I’ll try this for my spouse who wasn’t targeted and report back. The nice thing is the interest is high & no fees so at least it’s not just wasting away if we don’t get the bonus.

Couple questions.

1) Do trial deposits count as withdrawals for the six withdrawal limit? Say you add the account to three other banks, they do two trial deposits and two withdrawals a piece and now you can’t withdraw anything else because you’re at six?

2) Has anyone found in the interface your withdrawal count?

Shaun Good questions! I hope someone else will answer too. As I understand it, only withdrawals count. The two trial deposits do not count. The one withdrawal does count against you (the bank doesn’t make 2 withdrawals, just one combined). Capital One’s interface does not show how many withdrawals you’ve done. You will have to count them yourself.

1) Yes, trial deposit withdrawals count against the limit of six. Most banks have enough senses to withdrawal in one shot. Only place I’ve run into that withdraws trial deposits one-by-one has been Venmo (//shakes fist @venmo).

2) Most banks don’t warn about the number of withdrawals. You’re on your own. The only one making the warning noticeable (to me) is Discover Bank.

All America Bank also does two withdrawals to pull the tests back.

Oh well, I guess I’ll just wait until the 1st to pull the rest of my balance.

Thanks for the responses.

They do not count at Alliant CU, but I cannot speak for others.

I became a Capitol One 360 customer after Netbank was turned over to Ing Direct, and Ing Direct got bought out by Capitol One 360. I never received any bonus from Ing or Capitol One 360. I recently opened up a MMA without realizing there was a bonus available. Upon learning about the bonus, I chatted up an agent online at Cap One, and asked if they could retroactively apply the bonus. She said since I had opened up the MMA during the promo period with 10K or more, and had never received a bonus before she would honor the bonus! I wanted to give a shout out since it was a comment made on this thread that prompted me to chat up an agent. Thank you!

CapOne is good about this kind of stuff. I carelessly applied 1 day after the last bonus code expired, and called them and they honored it. Great customer service.
