Chase Approving New Credit Card Applicants With Non-Immigrant Visas (DHS Authorization SSN)

Earlier this month we reported that Chase had made a change where applicants with “Valid for work only with DHS Authorization” on the social security cards were being automatically denied for Chase credit cards. According to Chase lending services representatives this was rolled back on August 20, 2020 and these applicants can now be approved (subject to normal lending requirements). If you were denied previously it should be possible to call in and get your application reconsidered.

I was rejected by them because of dhs status on ssn. Today I called recon again and they confirmed the policy was canceled. My card was approved immediately.

Well, they get approved or declined just like everyone else does. It’s not like foreigners get special treatment (and if they do, it’s for worse as you can see in this post). You can even say it’s more difficult for them because they have to build their credit history from scratch.

That’s kind of ridiculous that it was policy at all, that means everyone in this country on a whole series of different work visas would never get a chase card. Wonder who was the idiot that thought this up.

Someone who attended college is now in charge? It must be hard for the previous one to understand what does “Valid for work only with DHS Authorization” mean…

My P2 got accepted for the United Mileage Explorer Card (we are both on work visas). They did not get auto approved yesterday, but this morning we saw it in the Chase app.

My P2 has been a tourist with a SS for more than 20 years. She has had dozens of credit cards over the decades. She has excellent credit and is currently 4/24
