Chase Hyatt Upgrade Offer: 5,000 Points

Update 11/9/19: Deal is available again until 12/31/19. Hat tip to reader John L

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Chase is offering some cardholders 5,00 bonus points if they upgrade to the new World of Hyatt card. You must make one purchase by September 30th, 2019

Our Verdict

When the new card first launched an upgrade bonus of 2,000 points was offered, then they offered 3,500 points and now 5,000 points. If you have any questions about doing this upgrade, I’d recommend through this post.

Just a thought: The old Hyatt card still has price protection. As many incidences as possible up to $2,500.

That’s why I’ve kept my old Hyatt card as well. This is the only card I have left that still offers price protection.

Does anyone know when the AF hits? Does upgrading reset the anniversary, making the AF hit immediately after upgrading?

The anniversary does reset when you upgrade. I upgraded in mid July, with the old cards anniversary being at the end of May. Almost immediately I saw a $75 credit on my account refunding the annual fee I had paid just over a month prior, and when the first statement closed the new annual fee ($95) posted. One interesting data point–since it reset my anniversary, I got another free category 1-4 certificate right after upgrading. I was not expecting that (thought I would go 14 months between certs).

i like that chase is giving an offer (bad as it may be), but couldn’t they just force upgrade everyone to the new card if they wanted to? or are there laws against changing people to cards with higher fees?

seems as though this would be illegal unless they gave card members the choice to cancel the card.

Tried the link and went for the upgrade. I have actually been wanting to upgrade. I know others will disagree, but I view the Cat 1-4 upgrade certificates at near 15K points. I can usually find a 15K point hotel to use it at, so by using the card for $15K spend per year, I will sort of get 2 points per dollar. Plus I get extra points at gyms (about 1500 more points a year), plus I do not have a good card to use for everyday spend abroad. Last month I called and asked if there was an upgrade bonus offer on my card. They said no bonus, that I could upgrade without a bonus, but encouraged me to wait a month or two “to see if something came up.” Glad I took their hint.

I know I will not be under 5/24 to get a SUB anytime in the next decade.

I received this too. 5K is a night at the lowest tier properties. Not bad. It’s not enough to make me run to upgrade, but I’ll probably do it.

They sent me an upgrade email with no points offer lol. I’ll never upgrade it.

First sentence is missing a zero: “Chase is offering some cardholders 5,00 bonus points”

Chase/Marriott gave me 50k points for upgrading their card. I don’t think 5k is enough for the Hyatt upgrade. Make it 10k and we can talk.

I’d rather wait a little longer and get the new Hyatt and the sweet sub instead of upgrade and not get much.

I will probably finish out that 5x promo for Bills/Utilities on the older Hyatt card and upgrade before the 9/30 deadline.

Won’t the offer still be on the new card if you upgrade ?

Not sure if it’s considered a product change?
