Chase Launches ‘MyCar’: Track Maintenance, Car Value & Check For Recalls

Chase has launched a beta version of a new webproduct called Chase MyCar. Currently MyCar lets you add a car to your profile and then helps track maintenance, your cars value and also checks for any recalls. The feature set is on the thin side at the moment, but Chase does say that more features will be added over time. The following brands are currently not supported: Subaru, Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin and Maserati.

How is Subaru not supported? Chase provides financing for Subaru.

Tried to enroll a Toyota and the site said it wasn’t compatible with my car at this time.

Their system could not find my custom license plate. Looks much like some sites advertised on TV.

Would there be any sign up bonus in the future? If so maybe best to wait a few months until the marketing starts

Just another way to build profiles of its customers to target products. Eg People with these kinds of cars make this much, have this much debt, have this many assets with us, etc. Also, maybe Chase could get people to pay for all their maintenance on Chase cards through targeted promotions related to auto.

exactly. Building profiles of people with good credit to sell to other companies also for marketing.

As much as I would love to hand over my license plate # or VIN to my bank and its third-party vendors, I can track maintenance history, market value, and safety recalls fine on my own, thank you very much.

They state in the FAQs that they won’t sell the data.

Maybe they’re planning on using inferences to market car loans (e.g. “this person has an 8 year old car that was purchased new from the dealer; therefore they will likely be in the market for something new soon, so we should target them for an auto loan.”)

Not only that. Chase could also use it to calculate wealth index or how rich you are, which could be used for credit card applications.

number 1 reason not to bank with chase, if you get credit from them.

Why not just have standing offers for Auto Loan? Why wait for the time when the person is in the market? It cost them nothing to send an email with an offer that the customer doesn’t take up and a customer might even take up an offer, just because they got offered a good rate.

They never ‘sell’ your data, but they simply trade it to build an even more exhaustive profile
