Chase Refer A Friend: Earn $100/10,000 Points Per Referral – Everything You Need To Know [Mobile Referrals Now Available]

Update 1/29/19: It’s now possible to refer friends from the Chase mobile app. You should see an option under account services to refer friends.

Chase allows you to refer friends and receive a bonus for doing so. The bonus you receive varies by card and referral bonuses also sometimes increase for short periods of times. In this post we will be looking at Chase credit card referrals unless otherwise stated.

How To Refer A Friend

Referring friends to Chase is quite easy, all you need to do is go to the dedicated refer a friend page, click invite friends now, enter your information and then send your referral link. It’s important to note that you can’t refer a friend to a card unless you’re a cardholder. For example if you only have the Chase Freedom card, you can’t refer a friend to the Chase Hyatt card.

If the above page doesn’t work, try using this link instead.

What Cards Are Eligible & What Incentive Will You Receive?

The following cards are eligible for referrals, we’ve also listed the standard incentive (note this does change over time):

  • Chase Freedom Unlimited: $100 cash back per referral, $500 maximum
  • Chase Freedom: $100 cash back per referral, $500 maximum
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred: 10,000 Chase UR points, 50,000 point maximum
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve: 10,000 Chase UR points, 50,000 point maximum
  • Chase Marriott Premier: 20,000 Marriott points, 100,000 point maximum
  • Chase Southwest Plus: 10,000 Southwest points, 50,000 point maximum
  • Chase Southwest Premier: 10,000 Southwest points, 50,000 point maximum
  • Chase Hyatt: 5,000 Hyatt points, 25,000 point maximum
  • Chase Disney: $100 rewards dollars, $500 maximum (this is usually $50 rewards dollars with the same maximum)
  • Chase Ink Preferred: 20,000 Chase UR Points, 100,000 point maximum
  • Chase United: 10,000 United miles, 50,000 mile maximum

Why Is There A Cap On Referrals?

I believe this is an issue relating to tax, if an individual earns $600+ then a tax form would be required to sent out. If you look at the maximums above you’ll see they all max out at $500 (and an additional referral would result in $600+). What doesn’t make a lot of sense is Chase imposes these limits on a per card basis rather than a per person basis. As always, please consult a tax professional. Another explanation is simply a cost saving measure. The cap is based on a calendar year.

When Will I Receive My Bonus?

Officially Chase states that you will receive your referral bonus within 8 weeks of the new card-member being approved for their account. In practice usually after somebody you refer is approved you’ll usually see the points go to pending on the Tuesday after they are approved (if they are approved close to a Tuesday it’ll often show the following Tuesday). For some reason recently points aren’t going pending on a Tuesday and instead on a random day, I suspect this will be a temporary issue. The points will post on your next statement. You should also get an email that the referral bonus will post.

I Didn’t Receive My Bonus, What Can I Do?

Generally if you didn’t receive your bonus there isn’t a lot you can do. Your best course of action is to contact Chase via secured message about the issue.

Can I Refer Somebody That Is An Authorized User On My Card?

Yes, that isn’t an issue at all.

Where Can You Share Your Referral Links?

Most forums and blogs have restrictions on sharing referral links, as they usually lead to a lot of spam and people attempting to game the system. It’s extremely important that before sharing your links anywhere, you familiarize yourself with that blogs/forums rules. For example we allow referrals on this blog, but in most cases you need to retweet something of ours and only post your link and twitter id. In addition readers of this blog typically use the links of regular readers that provide useful comments and content on a regular basis. Clicking here will give you some of the Chase posts you can share your referral links on. Reddit’s churning subreddit also allows sharing of referral links, but they have strict rules & requirements that must be followed as well.

The best place to share your links is directly with your own friends.

When Shouldn’t You Share Your Links?

In some cases the sign bonus your friend receives will be lower if they use your referral link than if they use another link. In cases like this it’s dishonest to suggest your friend should use your link, rather than a link that gives them a bigger bonus. I recommend always checking our credit card sign up bonus spreadsheet to ensure your friends are getting the best deal possible.

Does Chase Offer Refer A Friend For Checking & Savings Accounts?

Yes, they do. You receive $50 per referral but referring friends to these accounts doesn’t make a lot of sense as the sign up bonuses they’d receive are much lower than what they would normally receive. We have more information on these referrals here.

I referred a friend to Chase with the link but he didn’t use it. He went directly to the website. How can I still earn referred a friend bonus points?

I’m sure this has been answered somewhere, but: if I generate a referral link from my CSP then PC my CSP to a different card, will the link still generate points for me on the PC’d card when its used?

Does anybody know where/if you can see how many referral bonuses you’ve received? I’m asking about the Ink Preferred specifically, if it matters. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply A M. I did find a way – you just have to go back through each statement for the current year and look at the Ultimate Rewards summary section. It has a line item for Refer-a-business bonus points, you can just tally them up.

Interestingly, while the ad says $50, the whole blurb from the ink advertises $150. Mira:

“Earn $150 bonus with Chase Freedom. I can be rewarded too if you apply here and are approved for the card. Learn more.”

I haven’t been able to get a Freedom referral in a couple of months, but it is listed above.
https://creditcards.chase.com/refer-a-friend also isn’t showing it on my end; is this one available right now? Thanks!

Probably a dumb question, but I can only refer for a card of the same type? A.k.a if I have CIBP, I cannot refer someone (spouse or myself) for a different type of card?

Not dumb considering Amex allows it! Unfortunately Chase does not allow it
