Chase Ritz-Carlton $300 Travel Credit To Be Usable On Restaurants & Groceries

Update 8/17/20: From what I’ve been able to gather it looks like this credit went into affect for purchases starting July 1st, but you need to get Chase to manually apply the credit. It’s not clear if at some stage this will be automated or not.

Earlier this year Chase announced a number of temporary benefits for the Chase Sapphire Reserve/Preferred cards. One of these benefits is that the $300 travel credit would be usable on grocery store and gas station purchases. Several readers wondered if something similar would be offered to Chase Ritz-Carlton cardholders (this card is no longer available for new sign ups).

Reddit user CAPTAlNPLANET called the retention department and was told that soon this credit will be good towards Restaurants & Grocery store purchases. It’s interesting that the categories are slightly different to the Chase Sapphire Reserve (restaurants instead of gas stations) but I suspect most people will be able to max this out easily on grocery store purchases anyway. Letters should be going out to cardholders next week to inform them of this change, that will provide some more useful information including eligible dates.

Called for retention credits on 06/Apr and 17/Apr. Both times, chase rep confirmed that Ritz’s airline credit is only good for airline for 2021 and no changes planned.

06/Apr call was transferred to a retention specialist but no retention offer/credits. The rep offered $150 statement credit with no requirements on 17/Apr without being transferred.

Called into Chase customer service to inquire whether grocery/dining charges could be credited in lieu of airlines, was told program was reverting to airlines only for 2021.

Ugh I was hoping they wouldn’t do that since travel is still very limited in 2021. I hope they bring this promo back soon otherwise I will be cancelling the card.

Does anyone know if they are letting us use the credit for ANYTHING not travel in 2021? I’m not at all sure I’ll be doing much traveling this year and I just paid the annual fee. Probably should not have done that. Bummer.

Thanks. Came here just to get an update and was hopeful they extended it into 2021. I hope they change their mind soon.

Has anyone tried to apply this credit recently? I tried three weeks ago and was put on hold forever because the agent didn’t know about the credit. I finally hung up. I want to try again, but I don’t want to spend another 45 minutes.

Last week I applied my full credit to an online grocery purchase, via secure message. Received reply the next day, didn’t ask me for more information, credit applied within 2 business days.

Received email confirmation today, so hopefully goes more smoothly now:

I called twice. both reps indicated they weren’t familiar with any of these changes and didn’t offer to reimburse any of the gas, grocery, or restaurant spend I put on this card specifically earmarked for reimbursement (in my mind). These calls took place evening of 8/29/20.
