Publicly Available: Chase Sapphire Preferred 80,000 Public Online Signup Bonus + $50 Grocery Credit

Update 4/10/21: Some people have been unable to apply in branch (annual fee waived first year), this issue will be fixed on 4/23. If this affected you and you applied online Chase is willing to apply the annual fee waiver. Probably won’t work unless you actually tried to apply in branch as it logs the branch application when it was tried. Hat tip to EosHuffer

Update 4/6/21: This offer is now available via referral links as well.

Update 3/22/21:

Our Verdict

The standard bonus has been 60,000 for a while, and they recently began throwing in the extra $50 credit. I believe the highest public offer we’ve seen was the 80,000 points offer that ended just a few months ago, and beginning March 21 we’ll have the best-ever public offer of 80k + $50.

We’ll have to wait and see if the 80k + $50 becomes available via referral as well.

Also note: you can sign up in-branch and get the $95 annual fee waived.

There’s also an increased Sapphire Reserve offer coming on March 21st as well. See these 26 Things Everybody Should Know About Chase Credit Cards before applying for a Chase card.

Do we know when this offer expires?

Does paying your Fed or state taxes with this credit card count toward the $4000 spend requirement?….

Kamil Sultan

Yes, since it is a legitimate expense.

I referred P2, hoping it would be 80K but it came up as 60K. Would it be worth it to send them a secure message, asking for the additional 20K?

Kamil Sultan

Hope? It shows you what the offer is clearly before applying. It doesn’t hurt to send a message but haven’t seen any successful DPs of a match.

I just want to thank DofC and contributors for all your good work. Went with a neighbor to Chase, with appointment, after discussing what credit card she should start with… she had a couple of unused store cards. Completely smooth appointment, she was immediately approved for the Sapphire preferred with $50 grocery credit and 80,000 points. She’s already figured how to meet the $4k spend on regular expenses and is delighted at the prospect of flying to see family, using points, when that’s possible. Without this website, through which I have learned and earned so much, she would have been baffled as to what card to get and how to get it.

What does one write down on the application if just recently became unemployed? Asking for a friend

Kamil Sultan

If you have a partner, you can include their income if you are 21+. Select other for income source.

approx 25% return. Nice. I tend to be stingy with my personal applications, but I may have to go for this one.

If I apply within 48 months of receiving the previous sapphire bonus, they won’t even approve the card or just the signup bonus will not be given?

Howard

I have the same questions. I don’t remember when exactly I received my last Sapphire bonus. I know it was a Reserve card, but when contacting Chase they don’t even have record of my card

Dailybread

They won’t approve the card.

Howard
Howard

Great!! Thanks. This is really convenient, I can just go ahead and apply and not worry about not getting a useless card with no bonus attached to it.

Will I get hard pull if they won’t approve the card due to I got bonus within past 48 months?

John

DailyBread may be right, but it really surprises me. I have never heard of criteria for a bonus being used to determine whether you can get approved for the account itself. Typically you open a checking account or a credit card — and then later you have to meet a bunch of criteria if a promotional bonus was running at the time in order to get the bonus.

As I say, however, DB may be right. Perhaps others can chime in? Or DB can direct us to a link on some bonus-chaser page that confirms DB’s perspective?

Have a question if you know the answer for sure and care to reply. What’s the best scenario to accomplish my goals below?

Would like to take advantage of the 1.5 redemption with CSR for Grocery of Ultimate rewards points that I have collected throughout the years. Also like this Bonus offer for CSP and am eligible (after 48 months since bonus on any Sapphire).

Currently have Freedom from many years (plus United and Ink).

TIA
Chris

Can only have one sapphire card. Hubby has CSR, and I just got CSP, so I will transfer my points to him to do 1.5 redemptions.

I was hoping I could apply for the SCP for the bonus and then in one month or so, while still holding it, upgrade my Freedom to SCR to take advantage of the 1.5 redemption. But if they won’t upgrade my freedom while holding a SCP that won’t work.

Alternative option then might be, getting this bonus, and after a month or so, downgrade the SCP to a new Freedom. Then, wait a week and upgrade my other old Freedom to the SCR and redeem my points at 1.5. It’s available till September it seems.

Definitely get this bonus while it’s on anyhow. Figure Part 2 out later IMHO.

Do the modified double dip to open both the preferred and the reserve.

Are there any data points that this still works?

Worked for me last week…I’ll let you know if the accounts get closed 😛

Did you do it in any particular order? Any time between? I don’t have much of a relationship with Chase anymore so they can shut it down if they want…

Applied the first one, but didn’t get approved. Need to call reconsider line tomorrow. If the card was approved tomorrow, should I apply the second card within 24 hours of the approval timeline, or should be within 24 hours of the application timeline.

Thanks,

I’m not sure what day it’ll count as if you call recon. Usually it’s recommended doing it early in the day and calling recon right away if that happens.

It’s not about 24 hours, it’s more about the next business day for Chase (EST). However, I’m not sure in this case if it should be application or approval, sorry. Try reddit and they can usually help.
