The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Choice Privileges is offering 8,000 points (can be redeemed for a $50 gift card) when you complete two stays between May 24 – July 11, 2021

The Fine Print

  • Registration required at https://www.choicehotels.com/choice-privileges/promo/gift-card before checking out from your first qualifying stay.
  • The promotion is only available to members of the Choice Privileges® Rewards Program who register for this promotion, and then make two separate qualifying stays at participating hotels (WoodSpring Suites® hotels and Ascend Hotel Collection® all-inclusive resorts, among others, are not participating) with arrival between 05/24/2021 and 07/11/2021.
  • A “stay” is any number of consecutive nights at one hotel regardless of check-ins or check-outs. A “qualifying stay” is a stay that is during this promotion at a participating hotel through a qualifying channel (see Qualifying Channel, below) that is eligible to earn Choice Privileges points.
  • Most stays are eligible to earn Choice Privileges points EXCEPT: rooms booked at rates below $40 USD per night, certain hotel initiated promotions, reward night stays, complimentary rooms, rooms paid for as part of a convention or meeting, rooms booked through a third party online retailer including online travel agencies, wholesale packages, group tours, and stays booked using the employee discount or the friends and family discount. Stays at Choice Hotels® properties in the following countries are excluded from this promotion: Japan, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Guyana, and Ecuador. You must maintain an address in the U.S. (includes U.S. territories) to be eligible.

Our Verdict

Not the most exciting promotion, but might as well register anyway. You can convert the 8,000 points into a $50 gift card, but you don’t have to.

Anyone know if my previously booked Choice Hotel reservations will still count toward this promo? Or do I need to rebook?

And a follow up question: can I do this bonus point promo more than once? So if I make 4 qualifying stays I get 8k points x2? 6 stays = 8k pts x3?

I did the research and answered my own question. Choice Hotels says you can do the 2x stays for 8k pts an unlimited number of times. Confirmed on Twitter.

Does this deal include all Choice properties.. including the low end ones?

Read the fine print. High-end hotels are excluded. Also room rates below $40 are not eligible, so lowest end hotels won’t work either.

Not a bad deal if you’re hitting the road in the next few months and need a couple of non-urban overnights. Most Choice hotels (especially if you read the reviews and avoid their lowest-end brands) are fine for a night. With rising hotel prices, you might not want to pay for a Holiday Inn/Hampton Inn now. BTW, I think the best way to pay for motels these days is to buy IHG points when they sell them for a half-penny a piece. That gets you a lot of decent motels for less than $75/night including tax right now.

IHG pricing is so inconsistent- I got rooms at the same hotel. Day 1 14k points. Day 2 33k points. Day 3 17k points. All three nights rate was $149 before tax. Used points day 1 and 3 and cert on day 2. Some great deals but huh?

Yup, the IHG variable pricing is irrational. That said, especially if you can book a month or so before your travel date, the prices have often been low. I’ve been easily getting penny-a-point redemptions this way. Prices do seem to go up closer to arrival date and some properties NEVER have good redemptions. With the pandemic waning, I’m expecting award prices to rise, but who knows. In the meantime, the best IHG strategy is to book your dates as soon as you can and keep checking: you simply rebook if/when the variable price declines. From a value standpoint, only Hyatt’s award program is currently competitive with IHG.
