Update 2/9/20: Deal is showing an end date of 2/13, not sure if this normally just gets auto extended or not.

The Offer

No direct link to offer, available in branch only

  • Signup for the Citi Premier card and get 65,000 ThankYou points as a bonus after you spend $4,000 within the first three months.

Card Details

Our Verdict

Current online sign up bonus is 60,000 points with the same minimum spend requirement, so this is basically an additional 5,000 points if you apply in branch. We have seen an offer of 60,000 points with the annual fee waived in the past.

Keep in mind, the bonus is not available if you’ve opened or closed a Citi Rewards+, Preferred, Premier, or Prestige card within the past 24 months. As always make sure you read these things everybody should know about Citi credit cards before applying. We’ll add this to our list of the best credit card sign up bonuses.

Thankyou preferred has been renamed thank you rewards+,which shares the 24 month clock.

Thank you for the thank you info

Thank you preferred is a separate product – it might not be available to new applicants but it’s still around.

That’s right. I meant for new applicants.

I still have Thankyou preferred card.

Looks good. I got the prestige 1 year ago though.

Seems like the time of waived annual fees is over 🙁

if sapphire pfd is waiving citi would probably too. i think the banks have been figuring out that they are getting churned harder when they have no AF first year. of course, lots of people won’t even try something without a fee waiver first year….

I’ve earned so much more going with annual fee cards, then canceling and redoing when eligible or downgrading to no-fee after. Don’t be afraid of the annual, young padawan.

Yes, we changed our policy directly after and because of the CSP change.

If you’ve product changed from the Preferred to the Rewards+, does that count as a “closing” for the 24 month clock?

if you got a new number, then yes.

If the card number stays the same after conversion (mine did), it’s supposed to avoid resetting the clock. I have not tested this but I will later this year — I hope a 65k offer is around then!

Did you have to ask them to retain the account number? They keep sending me mailers pushing conversion and I might actually gain something from the switch (tons of small purchases), but all language seems to indicate that it’ll be a brand new account.

So, an extra 5K, but have to go into a branch… ugh, pass.

Thinking of combining this with double Cash. Are double cash balances transferable to TY points having this card?

meed18

I can transfer my double cash to thank you points. I have a thank you preferred card. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work with a thank you premier card.

I just closed this card. What should I do with my points? Can you buy Disneyland tickets thru their portal?

In the spirit of being the data point you want answered… Did chat. They gave me a phone # to call to request being matched to this offer. Said they would investigate and mail a response in 7-10 days.

Tang

would you mind giving us a phone number for it

Robert

Do you have the phone #?

DP

Sorry, I don’t recall the phone number. I’m sure anyone can get it from Citi chat. Just request to be matched to the offer. “God helps those who help themselves.” But following up, Citi gave me 5k points instantly to match the offer. They just didn’t *tell* me they did that or what the points were for. Appeared out of nowhere while I was checking my online statement. Busy life, so 10+ days is “ancient history” for me. Slipped my mind about the offer match request. Still working on the spend part. So the 5k TYP were obviously a “goodwill adjustment.” YMMV.

Also just got the 70k Expedia bonus paid properly. So hopefully they’ve fixed their IT issues relating to that.

That’s good news! Bad news is their chat is loading forever, so can’t get the number to call 🙁

I always have a hard time with this language so stupid question alert…I downgraded my Citi Premier to the Preferred this time last year (account are the same numbers).
It’s been 24 months since I opened the Premier.
Can I receive the bonus or do I have to close the account and wait 2 years now?

JFromOH

Beat2Def,
I encountered this same situation when I became interested in applying for the Citi Prestige. I literally did the same thing you did – downgraded my Premier to Preferred and basically sock-drawered the card until about 2 years later.

I actually called the CSR rep about this (*gasps*), and she told me that I would be able to get the new bonus so long is it was 24 months since I **received the last bonus**. And so she looked up the exact day and then also let me know it’s probably smart to wait for a week or two after that.

I did what she said and lo and behold, I got the card and then later the bonus points. So I’d recommend doing a little research to find out which month you received the prior bonus and then go from there.

Thanks for posting this, have been interested in picking up the Premier again but wondering about whether I’ll be eligible for the bonus. Any insight into the following situation?

-Opened Citi Prestige April 2015. Still have it, AF just posted and not sure if i’ll keep or close it
-Opened Citi Premier January 2016 and converted to no AF AT&T card March 2017
-If i apply and am approved for the Premier next week, receive and activate the card, and then close my Prestige, will i still be eligible to receive the bonus for the new Premier card?

I’m not sure if the 24 month language refers to just closing other Thank You cards prior to approval, or anytime before receiving the bonus. Thanks for any advice!

Follow these simple directions: read OP, click link “make sure you read…”, read #10. William Charles wrote, “It’s always worth asking, they don’t always match but they sometimes do.”

Michael

I called in and asked to be matched. CSR wasn’t able to do it. HUCA and tried again and escalated to supervisor who said they could put in the request and I would receive notification in mail whether I was approved for the match or not.

Robert
Robert

Were you able to successfully match?

Michael

Still haven’t received a letter from them, but there appears to be a 5k points credit on my account, while the points from 8500 spend aren’t listed yet, so I think I was probably approved!

Michael

Received the letter today confirming that 5,000 bonus points had been added to my TY balance, even before meeting the spend 🙂

Have the premier for 4 years now, I can probably apply for this and get the bonus. Does anyone know if citi combined points if I have 2 premier cards?

I got a 70K point offer in-branch, same spend requirement. Offer expires 2/6/20. Maybe it was because I am Citigold?

Zac
Zac

So the 70K offer was under your account not a public in-branch offer?

lorem ipsum
lorem ipsum

Unclear. I told the banker I was there because the in-branch offer was higher than what is publicly available, without mentioning the specific minimum spend. I was expecting 65K, but my application (still pending) says 70K. My assumption is the increase is because of Citigold, but I don’t know for sure (and I didn’t want to chance alerting the banker if the offer was in error).

Rex
Rex

Anyway you can share the 70k bonus offer screenshot? just trying to see if I got any luck to get it matched.

Andy
Andy

My banker told me it’s for gold only. The application automatically detect that.

moumou

My banker also told me the 70k offer is citi gold only. He said I can get the offer if I upgrade to citi gold. Also I was told the 65k offer is for citi blue so I upgrade my account from basic to blue.

My wife added me as an AU to her citi card. Am I still eligible for this bonus if I apply on my own?

Yes

I downgraded to the Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card from the Premier last January. It’s been two years now. Does this count or do I need to wait another year since I downgraded to the Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card last year (but had the Premier two years ago)?
