Our Verdict

Standard offer is 50,000 points with the annual fee waived, I believe, so this offer gives you 10,000 points for paying the annual fee. Not a big deal, but some people will prefer this offer. This isn’t the best offer we’ve seen as there has been 60,000 with annual fee waived in the past as part of a referral deal (that one did require an extra $1k spend). This offer is being promoted today by affiliates; I stripped down an affiliate link to get the link above. Support your favorite blogger by using their affiliate link; we don’t use them on DoC.

A reader notes that a better plan could be to do the regular 50,000 points offer which has the annual fee waived, and then ask Citi for a match to this public 60,000 points bonus. Hopefully, that will work.

Keep in mind, the bonus is not available if you’ve opened or closed a Citi Rewards+, Preferred, Premier, or Prestige card within the past 24 months. As always make sure you read these things everybody should know about Citi credit cards before applying. We’ll add this to our list of the best credit card sign up bonuses.

I got approved for the 2nd card but without having the offer. I called customer service and was told I closed my account in July 2019, <24 months. I wish I had waited a few more weeks.
I just closed it on the same day I received the card.

Wow, I was denied by CITI for this. Closed my last premier three years ago. Reasons were “too many inquiries” in last 12 months, but I’ve only opened four cards in the last 12 months, way less than I’d opened in the previous 12 months when I first got the Premier. Score 800+, income, 320K. “Reconsideration” line said they’d have to pull my credit again to reconsider, and if the info was the same, it wouldn’t change anything.

Does your new Rewards+ card have the same number as your Premier card? That is to say do you think your 24 month clock was reset by the downgrade?

Any experience applying for a 2nd Citi Premier card while you currently have another open? My bonus was >24 months ago. Also, if you have success, did you create a new Citi login or use your existing one?

Quick tip:
Applied and got the 7-10 days message (pending), then next day received an email I got declined due to too many inquires on my credit report (15).. Recently refinance my house and the majority were from shopping around for rates.
Called recon and explained. They approved the card after looking at it.
It’s always worth calling recon if you get denied.

What number did you call for reconsider ? I tried 888-201-4523 and it can play the status and reason of decline but has no option to reach a human representative. Thanks!

Looking at the bonus language from Citi’s website…..Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you received a new cardmember bonus for Citi Rewards+SM, Citi ThankYou® Preferred, Citi ThankYou® Premier/Citi Premier® or Citi Prestige®, or if you have closed any of these accounts, in the past 24 months……

Does this mean….if you previously received a bonus on any of those four cards (regardless of time frame …eg 48 months ago) you are not eligible for the bonus? or does it mean you just have to be past 24 months since you both received a bonus and closed the account. It sounds like if you previously received a bonus on any of the four cards you are ineligible… If you closed your account on any of the four cards more than 24 months ago and never received a bonus then you are eligible

Your interpretation is not accurate. The last comma matters…

https://www.citi.com/credit-cards/additional-info/citi.action?ID=AdditionalInfo-CitiPremier

Simply means:

Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you received a new cardmember bonus for Citi Rewards+SM, Citi ThankYou® Preferred, Citi ThankYou® Premier/Citi Premier® or Citi Prestige®, in the past 24 months, or, if you have closed any of these accounts, in the past 24 months.

My Citi Diamond card (opened 2014) was automatically changed to Rewards+ by Citi in Aug 2019 and this account is active as of now. Will I be eligible for this offer?

So, Chuck, could you please give me a clue if Citi provides unlimited Walmart gift card supply for the $600 bonus redemption without any competition? (say, if I wanted to redeem my $600 bonus for Walmart gc at once). Thanks so much in advance!  Chuck
