Our Verdict

We’ve seen the following transfer bonuses to Flying Blue in the past:

You can view other transfer bonuses Citi has offered before here. Even with the transfer bonus I wouldn’t transfer unless you have an immediate need for the miles as I suspect we will see a lot of devaluations from airlines as we exit the pandemic.

Not related to FlyingBlue rewards but TYP: I just checked and now they are giving 100% value for statement credit and cash rewards. Did anyone else check this?

Link to look at Citi transfer bonuses isn’t working for me.

Is it still potentially viable to book Delta or Alaska flights using those points? I have Citi TYP without a clear plan on how to use them and may be looking to close my Citi card this summer if they don’t waive or offset AF. I don’t currently have a flying blue account and haven’t had much luck searching through the KLM site.

Delta is good to go, but i don’t see Alaska on their list of partners: https://www.flyingblue.us/en/partners/airline

Interesting, thank you. I had done a quick search for best uses of flying blue miles and three of the top options from a Feb 2021 post (not DoC) were Continental US to 1. Hawaii 2. Caribbean 3. Mexico and all three indicated Delta and Alaska Airlines as partners. Delta has a heavy presence at my airport but I still wasn’t able to find any flights to those three destinations through the KLM or Air France sites.

All three of those choices are in relatively high demand and Delta can be a Scrooge when it comes to partner availability, especially in advanced cabins.

If you are thinking about transferring, create an account now. Not sure if this is still an issue, but in the past FB sometimes flagged accounts as possible fraud if they were opened and a points transfer was made shortly thereafter.

Also, there are a couple Frequent Miler articles yesterday with discussion about keeping FB miles active. They have weird rules, with different buckets based on how the miles were earned. Apparently if you transfer points to them, and then transfer points again a year later, that will extend the life of the original points. If you credit a flight to them, transferring points will not extend the expiration date on the miles from the flight. If you transfer points, then credit a flight, that will extend the life of the transferred points. However, they are then treated like you earned them from a flight; so in the future, you cannot extend the life by transferring more points. It seems like the bottom line is if you start transferring points to them, never credit flights to them (unless you know you are a frequent flyer with them).
