Avoiding Fees
Need to sign up for online statements otherwise there is a $3 fee.
Monthly Fees
Citizens Bank One Deposit Checking Account $9.99 Monthly Fee
The One Deposit checking account comes with a $9.99 monthly fee. Fee is waived by making one deposit each statement period. (According to this comment they really do count any deposit – even a transfer from another Citizens Bank account will trigger this.)
Early Account Termination Fee
As far as we know there is no early account termination fee.
Our Verdict
We’ve seen a $600 bonus in the past, but that required a $15,000 deposit to get the full bonus. This is a better option for those without that extra money sitting around. We will add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses.

2/27 Account opened in-branch (because declined online)
3/5 done several fake DDs and saw bonus tracker saying “congratulations! criteria fulfilled”
3/18 Got a call from banker asking why the account only has $5, and reminded me to make DD.
4/20 Not seeing Bonus tracker on the app anymore
4/30 Called phone banking but was advised that no coupon code was applied to my account
Is it possible that the banker removed the coupon code from my account?!
I forgot to take a screenshot of the bonus tracker as a proof. Can anyone share that with me?
Be very careful with them.
I churned 50 different banks, and Sofi and Citizens are the only 2 that never paid, even after CFPB them and talked to manager.
They are very shady and just don’t pay. citizens also closed my account and put 18$ fees (when balance was 0$) to make sure it’s closed with a negative balance.
Just look their reviews on Google and you will hardly see with a review better than 3/5.
Can you provide some more info about what their reasoning was for denying you the bonus instead of just saying that they are “very shady and just don’t pay”?
Also, you wrote “(when balance was 0$)”. You should never leave $0 in an account that you want to keep open.
Done this one 9x in 2 player mode, never once had a problem. Details please.
I have churned this 4 or 5 times and have yet to have an issue. Why would you leave an account at zero for any meaningful period of time? What fees did they charge and why? Many banks have poor reviews. I don’t tend to pay much attention to them, especially for a bank I’m churning.
Has anyone noticed the Promo Tracker disappear from their app? I had it for the longest, and today when I logged in I realized it was gone.
It’s still there for me. On iphone.
Hmm, not for me, both in my Android phone and my iPad. I wish I would’ve taken a screenshot of it… hopefully it’ll come back
I found it disappear last week and never see that again. I remembered that I got a call from the banker earlier this month asking if I would really “use the account” as she sees my balance was only $1. I am not sure if the evil bank pulls out the reward for people who are not leaving money in the account.
I would consider keeping it higher than that in case you do have an maintenance fee hit, that way they will not close it if you go negative. personally I leave $15-$20ish.
Interesting DP that they called you out on just in it for the bonus! lol
this thread seems stale. To wake people up: I just opened with $600 postcard (wasn’t in my name, but was discarded in my apartment building alongside 90% of postal junk)
I bought two off eBay for my last round, $6 each and they both worked fine for P1 and P2. Year before I managed to find one in a moving pack we got for my FIL. People in apartments seem to have an easy time finding these discarded. You aren’t the first person I’ve heard of finding them this way.
My kids typically open the value pack mailers, and I have sold a few on eBay that they found and given them the profits. I know not all people would do it, but I had one that for some reason and user complained it didn’t work, which it should have. I refunded him the eBay payment and stopped selling them at that point because it wasn’t worth it for six bucks for my kids.
My account was opened in March and DD finished (with tracker showing that requirement has been fulfilled on iOS app).
Logging in recently and the tracker banner was gone. Is it normal?
Same happened to me. However, it seems as though it periodically disappears then reappears again. Because of this, I made sure to screen record my account screen showing that I’ve qualified via the tracker.
I totally forgot to take a screenshot of that page….mind sharing with me just in case?

I opened this account October of 2023 and it was closed by the fraud department shortly after. Not entirely sure why but perhaps I transferred money out of it too quickly after the DD? Anyways what’s the timeframe on churning this? And would the previous closure affect it?
6 months from the date of last account closure. And, will your future be affected? Ummm, I’d say maybe.
If you get the “Credit Information Services” error next time, you should proceed to a branch to plead your case for opening it.

I signed P1 and P2 up for this bonus at the end of November and used Discover Savings to fake the DD. P2 received the bonus last month and P1 still hasn’t. Closing/sign up dates and transactions were identical between the P1 and P2 accounts and neither P1 nor P2 show any bonus trackers in the Android app. I suppose the only option I have is to wait a few more weeks and see, but I’m not hopeful. Any ideas?
I have two mailers for the 600$ bonus (300$+300$) for checking/saving. I just closed my account in November so I don’t think I’m eligible before these codes expire 5/22/2025
Updated mailers seem to be re-sent every couple of months, even if you used the one received prior!. By 5/22, won’t it be 6 months since your closing? What’s the exact feel on this…Also: what’s better, to open on-line as NEW to Citizens, or as EXISTING? Just now in off-hour, I’m having hard time getting thru 3rd page of Accounts Selection (in Chrome). Anyone?
Can anyone tell me how long does it take for the account to be gone from online banking after you close it? I have called to have the account closed twice and it still shows up in my online banking as normal.
60 days, supposedly. See comment #1716375 .
lolaso
As long as new statements are not being generated, it’s closed. When you view your last estatements, it will probably even say the closing transaction, but I don’t recall if that is the case here. I also verify the account is closed by looking at my EWS report.
I feel really stupid after reading this. I track my account closings in my spreadsheet, and I order my EWS report regularly, but it never crossed my mind to verify the closing dates with my report…🤦♂️
I have found EWS to be very accurate, however, only good for EWS banks, and MANY don’t use EWS. Sometimes there are some mysteries though…
My Amex personal checking, the account doesn’t show on EWS, but my P2 had her own personal account around the same time period and duration, and it’s on her report.
Another, once upon a time I had a Citi checking for about 3 1/2 weeks and closed it due to my lack in confidence that it would pay out the bonus (funding arrived one day late, due by day 21 then), and the account never made it to EWS. I am sure Citi has record of it, but EWS does not.
So, the record of fact is the bank’s internal dates. Those account statements can be worth gold when trying to churn (or at least keeping good records/spreadsheet).
If you have been actively tracking the dates for your accounts, you are in a very good shape and really do not miss anything.

As
Gadget - Bank Bonus Geek said, EWS report is generally very accurate, but can make mistakes or miss information here or there. I’ve noticed that the closing dates for some of my accounts in the EWS report are off, generally by 1-2 days but can be more than 2 weeks in rare cases. I know my own notes are accurate because I check account closure closely after I have requested it. So personally, I would trust my own notes more than the EWS report.
I’ve recently had a rash of account closings where final statements haven’t been sent, and/or no closing transaction appears online.
I know I could always just contact banks to confirm the closing date, but that can be time consuming.
Cross-checking my recorded dates against my EWS report seems reasonable here. Where dates match, then I don’t have to go any further. Where they don’t, I can double-check with the bank.
I generally monitor my online account each day in the next week or so once my closure request has been sent. It is little work for me. The day I find that I can no longer login or the account has disappeared from my online account, I know the account has been closed and I will mark that day as the closure date. There are some known exceptions (e.g. a Citizens account continues to appear in the online account for a while after closure), for which I rely on tricks such as trying a transfer or sending a message to the bank to confirm account closure date if there are no other visible indications that the account has been closed.
Yeah, I do that too. I’m just saying that if the date I have matches my EWS report, then I don’t have to investigate those exceptions further.
👍 Let us know if you find any pattern of mismatches.
