No direct link to offer

  • Delta is currently having a flash sale with flights to Costa Rica from 11,000 miles round trip
    • Minneapolis for 11,000 miles
    • Raleigh-Durham, Albany, Pittsburgh, Richmond, Hartford, Kansas City and Milwaukee for 14,000 miles
    • Los Angeles, Baltimore or Indianapolis for 16,000 miles
    • Columbus for 18,000 miles
    • Salt Lake City for 20,000 miles

Our Verdict

These are all for basic economy unfortunately. Flights should be available through April, most common out of Seattle but also available out of other airports. Will be interesting to see what airlines do in terms of pricing as the number of vaccine starts to ramp up.

This is the literal gold mine of traveling. Couldn’t think of a better time to travel and get the nicest hotels to myself. If you don’t like it or you’re scared then don’t do it. But don’t get angry others are living life right now.

We actually had tickets for CR but the new CDC requirements for a COVID test to return to US went in to effect during our planned trip.

So we rescheduled for latter this year – didn’t want the stress of being the DP and being on the bleeding edge of getting a COVID test in Costa Rica at the start of new US regulations.

All the kinks should get worked out and ample testing should be available in months ahead (or DP that say otherwise).

It’s a gold mine if you have flexibility in job/family/life and can deal with all the BS with traveling during COVID.

(i.e. flight cancellation, equipment and route changes, brown bag breakfasts, lack of soft/hard product in Premium cabins and elite status perks – not looked at flying to EU/UK or Asia in about 4 months – but sleeping in a mask in a lie flat seat for 8-13 hours has no appeal to me. )

That said a ton a excellent cash deals and award space availablity, if you have flexibility and time/tolerance for the BS of flight cancellations or route changes etc.

After cancelling two major and one minor booked trip (two Int’l, one domestic ). All on points/miles. I’ve put pretty much all but domestic travel on back burner.

Personally it’s a PITA and been a huge time suck – with changes/cancellations – except domestic trips. So we have five booked and will rebook CR for Nov/Dec.

Hint hint. There’s always a way around getting back into the US without needing a covid test.

I found some RTs from LAS->SJO (connecting at LAX with long layovers) for only 10k DL in Main rather than in Basic Economy.
