[Expired] Fee-Free Visa Gift Cards for AAA Members [11/24-12/24 & Select Locations]

This deal has expired and is unfortunately no longer available. Never miss another deal again by signing up for free and instant notifications of new posts.

The Offer

  • AAA members can purchase Visa gift cards with no purchase fee at select locations. This ad was found in AAA Northway (Northern NY), not sure what other areas it will be available in.

The Fine Print

  • Valid from November 24th – December 24th, 2017
  • Must be AAA member to purchase
  • Monthly inactivity fee of $2.95 with 12 consecutive months of inactivity

Our Verdict

The deal comes around twice a year, in May and November. It usually shows for mid-Atlantic AAA locations, but we have only confirmed Northway so far. I’d recommend checkingyour local AAA website for the deal closer to the deal going live (might be under Finance > Visa Gift Card). Keep in mind these purchases are tracked to your name and they sometimes shut people down. You can read more about that here or here.

Purchased two AAA no fee Holiday VGCs, $500 each, reset PIN via Phone got invalid PIN on first swipe. Went out and reset, still Invalid PIN. Promotion runs through the 24th but I’m done

I encountered the same problem yesterday in both WM and a local store. I reset the PIN, went back and still got the same invalid PIN message. At the same time non AAA VGC worked as usual. Is there any way to work around it?

I was hoping it was a temp thing. I successfully used two cards at the beginning of the month. Going to try again tomorrow

I called my home town AAA in Central PA and they knew nothing about fee-free and I think I had my Dad try unsuccessfully last year this time. I thought maybe I had done this successfully in the past, but I saw a charge of $1007.90 so I guess I was paying fees further back as well. I think this location should be within the range this promotion is supposed to be for, so I guess it is more store by store

No evidence for this deal on the AAA South website. But you can apparently buy gift cards at branch offices and receive 5% back in “AAA dollars” which are applied to your membership fee. For AAA South members, might be useful toward minimum spend and/or stacked with a percentage cash back credit card.

Info at https://autoclubsouth.aaa.com/Savings/AAADollars/636_gift_card_center.aspx.

AMEX RAT team likely won’t flag purchases at AAA; closer than going to Simon Malls for Meta’s for some. Con is larger transactions take time because staff register each card to you.

I got banned last year for making one large purchase of $11k (thanks BBVA NBA card!). Filed BBB and CFPB after I got banned and AAA never responded to either complaint.

So hit it hard fast and move on is my advice.

But you were able to buy the full $11k before they told you no more?

I need to make $8.5k to meet msr so it would be nice to do it in one sitting, I don’t mind losing my access afterwards.

What’s the point of buying these gift cards? There is no discount, no category bonus.

Minimum spend for minimum cost would be one answer

The AAA credit card has a category bonus for AAA spend lol. But yeah, it’s just a cheaper way to meet min spend

they work great if u want to put savings on your Amex card but places don’t take Amex. for example, my health insurance doesn’t accept Amex, so I’d get a visa gift card and pay my health insurance with it. spendings on Amex! I value spg points a lot more than anything else.

Got shut down after buying six cards for 3K on first play.

Account was flagged and visiting other stores didn’t result in success.

I say hit it enjoy what you get and move on.
