Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer showing in their upcoming circular, to begin Friday (6/29):
- Get 2x fuel points on the purchase Mastercard gift cards.
Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.
The Fine Print
- Valid 6/29/18 – 7/5/18
- Must use store card to get and use the points
- Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
- “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”
Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.
- Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
- You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
- Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
- See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
- Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.
Our Verdict
Giant/SS has been coming out consistently with nice fuel points deals. I believe they run more of those during the summer driving months, and this coming week will be another chance to load up on points for cheap gas.
While you are limited to getting $1.50 discount from grocery fuel points, you can bring down the cost further by utilizing the Fuel Rewards program (assuming you have the accounts linked). You can get at least $.05 additional discount, plus so many other deals like card-link deal at the grocery, and this Chase Pay deal.
June 29th and 30th you can still use Freedom or Discover to max out the quarterly categories. Or just use any card that earns bonus rewards at the grocery.

Be Advised- Walmart is not accepting Visa or MC Gift cards for purchase of Money Orders in the Bethesda Md and Northern VA area. Does anyone have any ideas on how to liquidate GCs
It’s location/CSM/CSR dependent.
What part of Nothern VA? It worked for me at the WM in Sterling last week. The issue I had at that time was that I bought 2 WM VGCs and used them too soon, about 10 minutes after they were activated. It was a surprise b/c it never had this issue, but ultimately I was able to liquidate them through buying a MO.

Of the MC’s I purchased only half earned the points. They were all of different designs, so that may have contributed. Be prepared to have to talk to a manager before leaving the store.

You don’t need a physical card with you. If you save the card on google wallet on your phone, you can use it. I’ve tried that in the past.

this is MCGC first of all. Secondly if for VGC, I’ll use it for regular spending
I use MCGCs for regular spending (and quick, USBank *sucks* and the numbers are guessable and i’ve had funds stolen). I usually use VGC for MOs or BPs

Looks like for in-store purchases, “transaction date” is the date purchases happen and the date counts for bonus.
Also double-checked my last-time Giant in-store purchase using Discover, transaction date and post date are the same for purchase @ 3pm.
