Gold Card from American Express for Ameriprise Financial – 25,000 Point Sign Up Bonus

Reposting because American Express has discontinued the standard gold card and might do the same for this card (haven’t heard anything about this).

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Receive a sign up bonus of 25,000 points after $1,000 in spend within the first three months of card membership on the Gold Card from American Express for Ameriprise Financial.

american express gold

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $160 is waived for the first year
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 2x on flights booked directly with airlines
    • 2x on U.S. restaurants
    • 1x on all other purchases
  • Access to The Hotel Collection

Our Verdict

This is the standard bonus on this card (never seen a higher bonus), not many people seemed to know about it in this reddit thread – so I thought I’d post. Ameriprise also offer a Platinum card with no annual fee for the first year but that bonus sometimes goes up to 25,000 so I’d personally wait for that. Being an Ameriprise client doesn’t seem to actually be enforced. Before applying make sure you read through these 19 things everybody should know about American Express credit cards.

Can I get a regular gold card also?

Presumably this is a separate offer from the other Amex Gold Card? As in, one can have both and get both sign-up bonuses?

That is the same thing that I am wondering, I’m hoping someone chimes in with the info 🙂

Does anyone know if I’ve already had the Gold Card (NOT from Ameriprise Financial) and closed it last year, if I would be eligible for the signup bonus on this card?

Yes, you would

are there any other gold/plat cards etc outside of ameriprise, schwab, mercedes benz and the non-affiliate Amex offers?

MORGan Stanley amex platinum currently offering 50k amex points

morgan stanley – though it seems you may need an account there (DoC may confirm?)

would love to know of any others

MS relationship is enforced

As others have noted, the relationship requirement is enforced. From the scant reading I recall, the power move is to open a 529 with them (assuming you can make use of a 529), which will make you eligible.

You should probably clarify that the Ameriprise platinum has the regular platinum AF; it’s just waived the first year.

Nice of you to post this when you saw people weren’t aware of it. You’re really in touch with and responsive to people’s needs.

Yeah, thnx for posting. I had no idea this existed. 25k pts for a super easy min spend requirement and no first year annual fee is a very good offer. $375 in gift cards at a Plenti partner, a domestic roundtrip, or a one-way to Europe for what, for most people, is probably a grand total of 30-60 mins of effort. That’s a good deal.

Is there info on how to get 1.5 x using plenti for gift cards?

+1

Would be a great way to pre-pay my ATT cell phone bill.

Ah, I see… need to wait for a transfer bonus.

Yeah, but does this Ameriprise version card also give the $100/calendar year travel credit, like the regular Gold card does?

This and the regular Gold don’t give the airline credit. You’re thinking of the PRG.

@DoC
IIUC it’s $100 Airline Fee Credit and NOT travel credit as compared to CSR ($300).
Am I missing something here?

Sorry for the newbie question – with this card you can transfer the points to airline partners just like the amex platinum right?

I am about to cancel the platinum card, wanted to use this card to keep my points active and transfer to an airline partner when I have time to fly.

James – This is a perfect fit for you then… Then you later on get the PRG ($1k Spend, 50K points) – and end with the 25K Amex (EveryDay?0 that has no Annual Fee.

Any MR card will do to keep your MR program account active, and — with rare exceptions (Blue for Business, for instance) — all allow transferring to travel partners. Many people nab an EveryDay credit card for precisely this purpose (at the 25k signup bonus) since it has no annual fee.

25,000 points posted a day after the charge that put me over $1000 posted.

No pre-set spending limit does not mean unlimited spending. Purchasing power adjusts with your use of the Card, your payment history, credit record and financial resources known to us, and other factors. Add Additional Cards to your account for an introductory annual fee of $0 for the first year, then $175 for up to 3 Additional Platinum Cards.

Just got auto approved.

Is this a credit or charge card?

Charge card.

Is there a benefit of this card beside the 25K sign-up bonus (I already have PRG)?

so will count on personal credit report for chase 5/24 rule right?

yes

Yes, all visa/MC/discover/amex personal cards do.
