The Offer
- American Savings Bank (ASB) Hawaii is offering the following bonuses:
- Get $250 when you upgrade or open a Biz Plus/Deluxe Checking account with $50,000 from another financial institution and maintain the money for 60 days*
- OR, get $100 when you upgrade or open a Biz Plus/Deluxe Checking account with $15,000 from another institution and maintain the money for 60 days*
The Fine Print
- *Offer expires 8/31/17.
- The offer is valid when you enroll in eBanking and 1) upgrade to, or open, a Biz Plus/Biz Deluxe Checking account, 2) deposit a minimum of $15,000 from another financial institution into the Biz Plus/Biz Deluxe Checking account to receive $100 (or deposit a minimum of $50,000 from another financial institution to receive $250) and 3) maintain the money deposited into the Biz Plus/Biz Deluxe Checking account for at least 60 days.
- The $250 (or $100 as applicable) will be deposited into your checking account by the end of the third week of the month following the criteria being met.
- If the Biz Plus or Biz Deluxe Checking account is closed or converted to another checking account within 180 days of upgrading/opening, a $100 fee will be assessed.
- Value of the gift must be claimed as interest.
- Limit of one gift per customer per upgraded/new account and only one account per customer is eligible. Cannot be combined with any other promotional offer.
- For Biz Plus, the $15 Monthly Service Fee is waived with $10,000 in combined business monthly average deposit and/or outstanding loan balances. For Biz Deluxe, the $25 Monthly Service Fee is waived with $50,000 in combined business monthly average deposit and/or outstanding loan balances
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Biz Plus is the easiest account to keep fee free, it has a $15 monthly service fee and that is waived with $10,000 in combined deposits and/or outstanding loan balances.
Biz Deluxe has a $25 monthly service fee and that is waived with $50,000 in combined deposits and/or outstanding loan balances.
Our Verdict
Works out to be 3/4% annual yield, but only for 60 days. Personally I wouldn’t bother with this bonus as there are a lot better savings bonuses or accounts that just have higher APYs.
