  • Mainstreet Credit Union is offering a bonus of $300 when you open a new checking account when you complete the following requirements within the first 90 days of account opening:
    • Have two direct deposits through ACH or RTP including Payroll, Pension, or Government benefits posted with a cumulative total of $400 or more within 90 days of account opening
    • Be enrolled in eStatements
    • Make at least 10 debit card transactions

The Fine Print

  • Limited time offer.
  • To receive the $150, you must open a new Mainstreet Credit Union checking account.
  • Minimum deposit may be required.
  • Existing checking accounts do not qualify for this offer, and members are limited to one new checking account per membership.
  • The $150 incentive will be deposited into your share savings account as an extraordinary dividend for tax purposes after 90 days, provided your account is in good standing.
  • To receive the $150, you must also have a recurring direct deposit of at least $200 posted to the account each month (such as a paycheck, pension payment, Social Security payment, or any other government payment), participate in eStatements, and complete 10 debit card transactions within the first 90 days of account opening.
  • Debit transactions exclude credits/refunds and ATM transactions.
  • Offer valid on new checking accounts opened through August 31, 2018.
  • For the purpose of this promotion, a “month” is defined as 30 days and a “new checking account” is one that is opened under a membership number that has had no prior Mainstreet checking relationship.
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Our Verdict

They offered the $150 checking bonus last year, not worth considering due to the fact it’s a hard pull. Because of that simple fact we won’t be adding it to the list of the best checking bonuses.

Big thanks to reader, Curmudgeon who let us know. Learn how to find bonuses and contribute to the site here.

  • Applied 6/13
Called 6/18 for update was told i would get a response from branch
Email received 6/20 asking me to unfreeze credit report (forgot to unfreeze 1 of the 3 ones), and was asked to explain why I had 10 chex inquiries in past year, replied with rational and confirmation all credit agencies were unfrozen

Never received a reply, emailed for f/u 2 days later and nothing yet.

  • Whats everyone doing for the 10 debit card purchases? They took forever to mail my card so I'm getting it late next week and only have until end of June. Can I do 10 Amazon reloads? Whats the quickest way?

    • How long from signup to get debit card? What did you use to satisfy DD requirements?

      • Long time. They never sent it intially and by the time I realized I had to wait 2 weeks and now I have a week left before my last month is up to do 10 debit card transactions

        • That's very frustrating indeed. I'll make a note to call or stop into a branch. Maybe they can print one on-site. What did you use for the direct deposit requirements? Employer or pushes from another source?

  • Applied 5/28
Sent message for status update 6/6
Called branch 6/11 and left voicemail
Finally got approval 6/12 and completed DocuSign

Chex pull - not sensitive. No hard pull. In footprint.

  • Successfully opened the account. Took 3 days total. Located in footprint. They do not appear to be Chex inquiry sensitive any longer. Previous application from July 2023 was denied due to Chex: 3/1 8/3 13/12 28/24. They do still pull Chex and I see the inquiry on my report.

    Approved with Chex: 5/1 7/2 9/3
Also I didn't get any notifications that a hard pull on my credit was completed although the application that I docusigned had a checkmark for "Credit" and "Check Verify".

  • 5/28/25 Applied for Account
Accidentally indicated was a member but I am not so it has been pending approval (was out of the country for vacation so didn't see messages until got back in town)

6/6 Saw messages, let them know of error and approved for and opened both membership and checking account.

No credit pull as of yet.

If Chex was pulled its doesn't appear to be sensitive bc CS is LOL/3 and LOL/6

Will update with more details for datapoints but according to terms that DD requirement is pretty lax with RTP counting for it

    • No Chex nor Credit were pulled but for reference Chex Stats currently are 3/3 9/6 9/12

  • Application link is broken. Correct link is https://www.mainstreetcu.org/new-checking-account-bonus

    Paper statements are $3/mo

Can fund $3000 if ACH from another bank, $505 on credit card. System recognized Visa/MC/Discover/Amex but I used Visa.

No instant approval. Got this message "you have successfully completed your account request! An Advisor will reach out to you via email for any addtional information required. Please make sure to check your spam folder if you haven't heard from us."

No hard pull alerts yet. They might do that before final approval. Since it needs to be looked at by a person I'm guessing nothing until Monday.

      • No hard pull yet. They called and wanted a utility bill to verify residence and were supposed to send me a link to upload that, never did. Requested again today to get that sent to me, so we'll see what happens. As of today, no account opened

          • Any update since last comment? I applied and application status says "Approved Pending" but no update in 2 days. They did pull Chex for me and my stats are very high. Was previously declined due to Chex but this time seems more promising given it wasn't an instant decline.

          • My application was approved on day 3. Submitted DocuSign to complete opening and account number was included on the form. Form says they pulled Credit and Credit Check but only see Chex inquiry.

          • If you just need to upload a doc, you can get to your application from the main webpage. There's a place to upload there...

          • That's a little odd that they never responded. What does the status say on the Check Application Status page of their website? @guest_2073225 said theirs says "Referred" but mine says "Approved Pending". I'll probably end up calling them to get an update since it seems they don't follow up.

          • I called yesterday and left a message about my application. Was finally approved today after 15 days of no activity.

          • My status is "no application in the past 90 days" I guess they really don't want me as a customer

  • I had an account with them years ago which has been closed for at least a couple years. Anyone know if we can do this again? Do they reactivate the same old membership making me ineligible?

    • Even if they reactivate your previous membership account you would likely still be eligible. It doesn't require you to be a new member as long as is a new checking account. Terms specifically states, "Valid for new and current Members without an established checking account. Requires a new checking relationship with the Credit Union." So as long as they don't re-open an old checking account (which I don't think they would), it sounds like you would qualify. The terms do go on to state, "Members can only receive one new checking account opening related bonus every three years" so I would make sure that you meet the time frame requirement.
