[Expired] Marriott: 5,500 Properties Off Peak Pricing Through July 31st

Deal has ended, view more Marriott deals by clicking here.

Marriott has announced a number of positive limited time changes:

  • 5,500 properties will price as ‘off peak’ for bookings made before June 30th for stays through July 31st
  • Elite members will receive 50% elite night credits based on their 2019 status (e.g gold elite will get 13 elite night credits). Status has already been extended through February 2022

Both these changes are positive so it’s hard to complain. I would’ve thought that all properties should be pricing as off peak anyway given how low demand is at the moment so that could speak to a bigger problem with how that off peak pricing is actually calculated.

I went to a Marriott hotel that was $350 a night earlier this month. The pool was closed. They didn’t give free breakfast that is on their site.. Even though their restaurant was open for dinner. All the activities were cancelled and housekeeping was not available. I even called for towels and did not get them. Half the staff had their masks around their necks. I asked for a late check-out as a gold membeer as my wife had a last minute zoom meeting scheduled for 11 AM. They refused and said they had none available. The hotel was virtually empty. They had 15 rooms listed on expedia as available plus more rooms listed on Marriott site. I complained to Marriott and they just said they will let the hotel know and of course never heard back from anyone. Hilton here I come.

that’s terrible — please name the place. (and hope you’ll post a detailed review to that hotel’s web site….. and dare Marriott to keep ignoring you) Matches too many experiences I’ve had repeatedly since SPG got “bonvoyed.” Even my Marriott points balance is still missing over 40,000 points…. just vanished. You’d think Marriott in this new covidian world would be determined to win us back…

I did not receive points yet… Has anyone seen the extra points in their account?

I am at Marriott luxury vacation club right now. Very empty.

They can lower prices significantly just to try to attract more revenue business.

What’s the best way to get Marriott points sans Marriot credit card?

Isn’t it off-peak travel right now almost everywhere? April Fool’s has gone, Marriott!

hard to complain? Let me give it a shot:

The 50% deposited night credits for 2020 overlaps significantly with the status extension to 2022 that it brings next to nil marginal utility/benefit for most.

For example, a plat (lowest tier that’s worth thinking about) would have 25+15 (CC) to start with this year, so IF s/he can stay another 10 nights s/he will be a plat again in 2021. But guess what? S/he already will be a plat in 2021 due to the status extension alone.

Elite credits could be helpful for achieving lifetime status though

Exactly. Marriott gave me 30 nights (CC) + 25 so I have plat status again without staying 1 night this year. It also puts me at 10 years of plat so lifetime status–woo hoo!

Sigh…Congrats…..I still have a chance now since they dropped me down to lifetime gold…..this would have been my 10th year as Elite Plat for the lifetime win.

Probably your easiest year to get it!

I thought CC nights don’t stack so 15+15 = 15?

They have been consistently tilting the table towards their favor and perhaps you haven’t noticed it.

The “lifetime” thing now is primarily limited by years not nights. A 10 year plat (lower limit on the year) would have at least 550 (50+ 5 choice benefit yearly) nights at the end of that 10 years. If s/he happened to stay just a few nights more here and there, s/he’s already got 600 nights for that.

Thus having the exact issue as detailed in earlier post, seems great on paper, benefits nobody (besides BONVOY) in practice.

btw. Don’t get me started with the whole axing of actual lifetime plat (renamed to titanium now) BS and the very real possibility to make an enhancement to the program by axing lifetime gold (renamed to plat now) a few short years down the road, hope you can make it before the axe falls, good luck;)

I’m using it for the extra Choice Benefits options… so it’s hard for me to complain lol

It’s somewhat helpful if you value the Annual Choice Benefit gifts and also lifetime status. Personally, I have 31 nights so far from back before March, and would get 38 more from this, hence giving me enough nights for at least the 50-night gift, and a couple nights more to the 75-night gift. It’s nothing too exciting, but decent nevertheless.

Will they deposit Elite Night Credits into members’ accounts with a Lifetime Gold or Platinum status?

Hard to complain? Yeah, I’ll give that a go: It’s impossible to get to these properties due to the coronavirus travel restrictions. Hopefully that changes.

So they are charging off peak prices for off peak travel times?

Shocking.

One of my favorite comments ever in DoC. This captures how crappy Bonvoy really is!
