[Memo] 49 Simon Mall Locations Set To Reopen This Weekend

[Update: a reader in the comments says they heard from Simon corporate that gift cards will probably not be available until June.]

According to a memo obtained by CNBC, 49 Simon Mall and Outlet locations are set to reopen this weekend, Friday through Monday. The mall had temporarily closed all locations back at the end of March.

Free CDC-approved masks and hand sanitizing packets will be available to the shoppers who ask for them. Simon will also make free temperature testing available to customers using infrared thermometers.

Sounds like local governments will attempt to slowly open things up sometime over the next few weeks/months, and presumably these openings are being done in consultation with experts. As always, please follow guidance from officials and before going out.

A lot of people like going to Simon Mall to buy $500 or $1,000 Visa gift cards. There have been reports that malls were out of Visa gift cards – worth checking with your local branch to ensure they have them before going.

You can find a full list of locations opening at the end of the CNBC article.

I don’t see Long Island, NY on the list of re-openings?

I think it’s by the state. None in NYS will reopen, neither will CO, CA, OR or WA. Looks like all of TX locations will re-open on May 1.

sounds crazy just to MS. Not worth the chance. Just buy online for the 10.00 extra fee. Still free shipping with the code on DOC. Plus no 1k cards till June!!

I have not been to the mall in so long and that FEELS GREAT!

AMC movie theatres may go out of business. According to many models this will decrease mass shootings and senseless violence and baseless hatred

I will stay away from malls if they reopen. I am doing great with malls closed and saving money by not buying over priced stuff.

In 2003, SARS disappeared before any cure or vaccine introduced, and actually never had any after 17 years!!!
If you look at the history and use your brain, you should realize expecting cure or vaccine is actually a retard behavior.

PS: many Asian big cities, like Taipei, never shut down for EVEN ONE SINGLE DAY!!!
They don’t expect stupid vaccine, and they are still way better than rest parts of the world.

Taiwan learned a lot from SARs, they got hit hard. They locked down travel right away, including their ports. They quarantined the positive individuals and used cell phone technologies to track people. They started manufacturing masks right away anticipating demand… a lot of what we did not do, or many other countries. It’s surprising really, but the virus was allowed to run rampant because of it.

Simon’s approach seems to be targeting locations that have a lower-than-average transmission rate, but obviously that’ll change once the doors reopen.

Aside from the few Simon properties which have grocery stores and pharmacies, everything inside a Simon mall is extremely non-essential. This is a huge luxury that I’m not sure we’re ready for right now.

Based on the list, it looks like states that have lifted their stay at home orders, never had them, or are expiring on May 1.

Who the hell still goes to malls nowadays anyway?

I thought those things disappeared a long time ago. The best urban exploration sites feature abandoned malls. Now they’re making a comeback?

More Bizarro World.

Just because they reopen doesn’t mean there’ll be any traffic. I went to the mall just before it closed, and there was very light traffic at all non-essential and premium places. I guess it all depends, but folks with lots of money to spend won’t be going there in droves.

The 5 hospitals around here use it on employees and visitors prior to entrance.

May be theater, quarantine taught me that hangovers cause fevers. True story, multiple times.

might be worth it for the free masks and sanitizer 😂 but, there’s a new girl at the mall that i use and she asked me to fill out the form for just about $1000 worth of cards on my last visit. i declined bc i filled out the form on my previous visit for the first time and thought that they would just keep it on file. if they ask you to fill it out each time, it’s not worth the hassle.

I think you mean “if you only buy $1,000 per trip it’s not worth the hassle.”

spoke to someone at Simon corporate, the malls probably won’t be selling gift cards till June. So online is still the way to go for now

I didn’t realize Texas had so many Simon properties until seeing that list.
