MoviePass: Automatically Resubscribing Old Customers (Must Opt Out)

MoviePass has sent out e-mails to some previous customers stating:

‘Because we really hope you begin enjoying your MoviePass subscription again, we have chosen you to be part of a select test group, who beginning Friday October 5th will be restored to three movies per month for $7.95 (up to three movies per month, based on existing inventory) – the same subscription that you signed up for and you previously enjoyed. If you decide that you do not want this you must “opt out” before Thursday October 4th at 9:00PM EDT

To be clear, unless you opt out, your unlimited subscription will be restored and you will begin enjoying unlimited movies again….’

Some people are getting the same e-mail, but offering to restore unlimited movies. Resubscribing an old member surely isn’t legal, so I don’t see how MoviePass will get away with this one. That being said if you did receive the e-mail I’d just opt out to avoid the hassle of getting your money back. If you don’t appreciate these business tactics keep in mind competitors Sinemia & AMC Stubs A-List.

I got the email & I’m letting them charge me just so I can file a chargeback and make them eat the fee.

Lol no way they can fight the chargebacks so might as well make use of it. Honestly surprised Visa/Amex keep processing the payments because they’re going to be on the hook when things go to shit

Isn’t this the sort of thing that Wells Fargo got into a whole lot of trouble for? Granted, MP is “restoring” accounts, but in both cases they are signing people up for services without awareness or approval.

That’s nothing , they’ve got nothing on the guys:

I’ve tried unsubscribing, opting out, tried complaining for violating the do not call list, but they still solicit my participation and want me to send them money every year. For some reason the IRS doesn’t really seem to care hahaha 😉

Sounds like you are avoiding your taxes and not doing your fair share of contributing while benefitting from public roads, schools, utilities, etc. I would suggest you return those calls and messages right away. People who pay their taxes correctly almost never get contacted by the IRS.

Ray

Sounds like you missed the fact that it I was joking, but taxes are a regular occurrence (Quarterly) and a painful recent memory, :September 17th, Form 941 for 2018. So when Portland’s minimum wage went up to $12.00/hr on July 1st, so did my payroll taxes. On the bright side -MSRs super easy to meet for P#1 and P2# down side – no warm fuzzy’s meeting MSR from paying taxes.

The new tax law passed last December that was supposed to sunset around 2025. I have no clue if it will cost me more or save me more on taxes -but this week they voted and it is now permanent.

I could give you an earful about deferred maintenance on our roads and bridges – not being paid for with our gas taxes. etc.

“…It will go down in history as one of the largest public works project in Oregon history that never happened. Columbia River Crossing has paid out $199.4 million…latest numbers released to The Oregonian by the Oregon Department of Transportation. We have nothing to show for that tax money and the project is dead”

$200 Million of tax money just on planning, polling and lobbying, EIS, “….nearly $10 million on public relations and political consulting firms…” not a single yard of concrete or any construction, repair or maintenance over 10 years and .2 Billion of tax money.

Projects dead and and now they have to start over again from scratch……… so yeah Death and Taxes & Bread and circuses.

In the email I received, they said they are restoring unlimited movies if I don’t opt out.
Here is what I got:
Because we really hope you begin enjoying your MoviePass subscription again, we have chosen you to be a part of a select test group, who beginning Friday, October 5th will be restored to unlimited movies (up to one new movie title per day based on existing inventory) – the same subscription that you signed up for and you previously enjoyed. If you decide that you do not want this you must “opt out” before Thursday, October 4th at 9:00 pm EDT.
