New Marriott Credit Card Bonuses [Last Day For American Express]

Update 4/23/19: Today is the last day for the American Express bonuses. Also the last day for the upgrade offer on the Brilliant card.

Today is the day Marriott has started officially usually the Marriott Bonvoy name and they have made a number of changes to the co-branded cards offered by American Express & Chase. The American Express SPG personal and Chase Marriott business cards are no longer available for sign up.

As part of these changes we are also seeing some new sign up bonuses on the other Marriott cards that are still available for application. These bonuses are as follows:

Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card (Previously Starwood Preferred Guest® American Express Luxury Card)

Direct link to bonus

  • 100,000 points after $5,000 in spend within the first three months. Valid until 04/24/19

This is the same bonus this card launched with, it has also been available via referral before as well. Personally think we will have to see a stronger sign up bonus on this card in the future, but it looks like at least in the immediate or near term this is as high as it will go. Keep in mind that starting March 28th, 2019 they will be offering a $100 property credit at  The Ritz-Carlton® or St. Regis with a two night minimum stay that is booked directly.

Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card (Previously Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express)

Direct link to offer

  • 100,000 points after $5,000 in spend within the first three months. Valid until 04/24/19

Annual fee is waived first year and will be $95 the following year if you apply before 3/28/19. Otherwise annual fee will be $125 (most likely still waived first year). Again this is the same sign up bonus that was previously offered.

Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card from Chase (Previously Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card)

Direct link to offer

  • 75,000 points after $3,000 in spend within the first three months of account opening. $95 annual fee not waived

We somewhat recently saw a bonus of 100,000 points on this card.

Our Verdict

None of these offers are particularly amazing, if you’re considering any of them keep in mind the cross issuer Chase/American Express rules for these products. I would have thought Marriott would have wanted bigger bonuses than this to celebrate the launch of Bonvoy, but nothing Marriott does surprises me anymore.

I am putting my bet on Bonvoy Business with $125 and NOT waived for first year, reasons:

1. Amex Gold, not waived after renewal
2. Biz Gold, not waived after renewal
3. Ameriprise Plat, no longer waived
4. Hilton Biz, not waived.

I feel there’s a trend in Amex cards with first year AF not waived, and I think Amex Marriott Bonvoy Business Credit Card will be the same. (And I really dislike the names lol)

Does the new marriott business lock you into the $95 annual fee or free first year, 2md year 95, 3rd year 125?

Based on the Offer Terms, it looks more like a $95 lock-in:

Annual Fee
The annual fee for the Marriott Bonvoy BusinessTM American Express® Card is $125. If your application is received before 3/28/2019, the introductory annual fee will be $0 for the first year of Card Membership, then $95.

First year 0, second year 95, third year 95,… ?`

There is no fee Hilton card. I am guessing that for the Amex Gold and Biz Gold will have less people getting the card if they have to pay a big fee up front. Probably will have to change back to waiving the fee in the end.

“nothing Marriott does surprises me anymore.” Make this part of template going forward. Will save on typing labor.

This question may have already been asked and answered but are the amex cards considered new products, as far as being eligible for the sign up bonus-specifically speaking, does amex lifetime language apply if I had opened/closed the spg business card several years ago.

Glad I went with the Hilton Amex instead of this. Maybe a targeted SUB will be higher or Bonvoy points will get a value increase, but those 14x(0.5cpp) Hilton points plus Diamond are looking pretty good compared to 6x(0.75cpp) plus Gold Elite. Jus’ sayin’.

Where are you getting .75 CPP for Marriott. I have two 5 night stays coming up at Marriotts where I am getting over 2 CPP. You get the 5th night free at Marriott on rewards and they have much higher per point than you are saying. I have never gotten less than 1.5 cpp. Pretty much a no brainer to do Marriott cards before Hilton cards at this point.

Also you can get Marriott and Hilton cards. I have 3 Marriott cards and my wife has 2. I have one Hilton card going to get more in the future.

Quick question, can we still transfer Marriott points from P2 to P1 without any fees?

J T

Per Marriott FAQ: free transfers (coming or going) for Gold and above, 100k annual limit (unclear if calendar or rolling), otherwise $10/transfer.

If I’ve not had the Business version of the card and I’m already done with the Top 5 on your best cards list, wouldn’t that be a good bonus given the annual fee is waived the first year if I apply before the end of March?

There was a targeted offer recently on the Amex luxury card for 125,000 points sign up bonus as well.

Spending requirement on biz card went from 3K to 5k and only 25,000 increase in bonus points.

Saw online data points that the SPG Luxury $300 statement credit works with website gift card purchases?

Where did you see these data points?

Amex pulled the referral offer to both spg cards

Think so too

No referral offer? I was waiting for increased bonus for SPG luxury but I would have taken 75k Marriot + 15k MR anyday compared to 100k Marriot. I hope they bring referrals back.

I just transfered 5k in MR points to Marriott. I prefer Marriott points myself but to each their own. If there was still a referral you could get 20k Marriott points in referral which is the way I would have went.

There is 1 referral u can do from the spg personal to luxury, it won’t come up if u refer from any other Amex card,

Meilech

I disagree, honorable Menachem. Referring from any card could get you to the Luxury (Brilliant) card

Anyone finding referral availability for Bonvoy Business Card?

I received a referral from my partner via email and it has referral for both – brilliant and biz

What card did you refer from that had the business card as an option?

from regular SPG that has $95 annual fee. But unfortunately the link for business card does not work. I told Amex and they said they are working on it. It has been 2 days but it still does not work.

Referrals appear to be showing up as of today for Bonvoy Business.

So can someone confirm my availability – if I recently got (last 30 days) the SPG Business (AMEX) card – now Marriott Bonvoy Business (AMEX) – I can or cannot get the sign-up bonus for the Marriott Bonvoy Luxury card (the previous Luxury card – which I’ve never had)?

Thanks!

I’m at 4/24 Chase and want to get Chase United Business card for 75K sign up bonus by March 28. I’m thinking of getting this Bonvoy Business Amex by 3/28 since AF is waived first year, is this the best sign up bonus? Should I get for both United Business and Bonvoy Business Amex on same day so there’s only 1 hard credit pull?

Andrew D
Andrew D

Would still be up to 2 pulls. 1 from Chase and maybe 1 from Amex depending on your history with them. No advantage to applying for both on the same day, no real reason you can’t apply for both on the same day either. If you have any amex non partner cards you should be able to self-refer for the Bonvoy Biz now – or use a friend’s referral to give them points and you get the same 100k/$5k offer.
