[Expired] Office Depot/Max Stores: Buy $300 In Visa Giftcards & Get $15 Instant Discount (8/29-9/4)

Deal has ended, view more Office Depot/Max deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Check your Office Depot/Max store for the following deal:

  • Buy $300 in Visa gift cards and get $15 discounted instantly at the register.

The Fine Print

We didn’t get info on the fine print, but my assumption is:

  • Valid 8/29/21 – 9/4/21
  • Limit 1 per household/business
  • In-store only

Our Verdict

They usually offer a deal the week following Staples. If you buy a $200 Visa gift card and a $100 Visa gift card, the total will come out to $297.90; or buy two $200 Visa gift cards for a total of $398.90.

Dosh offers 4% back at Office Depot/Max – offer ending today (8/29) – or their regular offer of 2% back, though the terms exclude gift cards from earning. Use a card like the INK Cash/Plus which earns 5x at office supply stores.

Does the $200 MB VGC at Staples with vertical opening have any different behavior for loading BB or for purchasing MO? The BIN is the same. I am assuming just the packaging change and nothing else

It is becoming more difficult to do more than 1 transaction per day in the same store. One store manager gave a 5 min lecture on how it is illegal to do more than 1 VGC purchase per day and he is required to report anyone doing that to US Federal authorities (IRS) for structured purchases. I thanked him for the expert tax advice after doing 1 transaction……LOL

The deal says “Limit 1 per household/business”, why in the world would the manager need to resort to lies about structured payments/IRS if they did not want to do more than one? If they were just looking to threaten you, then they could have just said that they will ban you from the store or from buying gift cards in the store. And are they referring to structured payments as in relating to cash transactions? I am pretty sure that requires evidence that people are structuring cash transactions under $10,000 to evade the $10,000 reporting threshold. It does not even make sense how buying prepaid cards at a store, especially if using a credit card, would at all apply to this reporting rule unless they had evidence that you were buying around/over $10,000 worth in multiple cash transactions. Most stores even prohibit people from buying more than a certain amount of gift cards in a single transaction/day. Just silly, unless the manager is just ignorant of the law.

I have heard WM employees say the same thing when I went to purchase MOs. IMAO they are ignorant of the law and trying to instill fear on gamers that they are doing something that is illegal and could lead to federal prosecution and prison time. I thank them for their expert advice and wish them good day.

Does anyone know if Staples MB VGC works for full $200 swipe for loading BB Visa? I know BB Amex is limited to <=$99/swipe loading with this MB VGC. I would appreciate if someone can confirm this. Thanks

Have you been able to buy prepaid cards with other prepaid cards? I have previously had issues where prepaid cards decline attempts to buy other prepaid cards.

Which one is a better option Five Back or Grocery Everywhere VGC? I want to load BB AMEX with it. If it doesn’t work then MO at local grocery store or organic spend online/instore. Thanks. Also, can I buy 4 $200 VGC in one transaction and get $30 off? Or do I have to do 2 separate transactions of 2x$200 each? Thank you.

1) Everywhere cards are a better option because of the lower fees.

2) You’d have to do two separate transactions.

Thanks raekwon I don’t mind paying an extra $ if it works for BB Amex without headaches. 5Back can be used anywhere whereas GE can only be used at Grocery stores? Thanks

Everywhere cards work wherever Visa debit cards are accepted. Just marketing.

Vanson Nah. This intrigued me so I just tried to use the remainder of a Fuel Everywhere card to pay part of my cable bill. Didn’t work. What was your experience with an Everywhere card working at a place where it wasn’t “supposed” to?

I haven’t had the need to purchase the fuel or movie ones, but the grocery, dining, and style all work at WM for organic spend (i.e. buying regular items at checkout–runs as debit). Also works at all my local supermarket chains and convenience stores for organic spend. All were in person transactions though (i.e. not online purchases).

Only luck I’ve had with online use with these Everywhere cards were on Target and Amazon. Didn’t think to try paying my utilities with them. I can most certainly try the next time around if/when GB dies.

Vanson Okay, gotcha. Yeah, WM is a special case with these cards, since so many of them so carry groceries, clothes (Style), have a gas station attached (Fuel), have a Subway inside (Dining), etc. That’s the one place where I’ve had success on all four of those Everywhere cards (haven’t tried Movies, Explore, or Home Everywhere). Interesting that you’ve had success at grocery chains too with the other cards.

Just as a note for anyone wondering, I’ve had no issue paying utilities or anything else online with the Five Back cards, which have the same BIN as the Everywhere cards (4912 77).

Got 2 5Back VGC. Manager was nasty (i would fire him on the spot if he worked for me) so couldn’t get more. Horrible experience overall. I will ask Staples manager to see if they can carry this 5Back/GE cards.

i have a $200 virtual prepaid mastercard which i added to applepay. But when i tried to use applepay to buy the visa cards at OD there was no way to choose credit. it defaulted t debit and asked for a Pin. After entering the Pin the transaction got declined. the balance was $159.45 which is less than the $200 on my virtual card.

my question is does OD allow payment using virtual prepaid mastercard to buy visa cards?

Anyone else having trouble finding Everywhere? It seems as though my whole region has just stopped receiving shipments of them. Several stores have even rearranged the racks to cover up the spots that GE and SE used to be.

Joe Yeah, my usual store only has the $100 max varieties right now (Fuel and Movies, tbe). I asked a manager today about getting the Grocery and Style ones in more often and he said if there was a blank space on the rack for them, he’d scan them into the next order. Hopefully I’ll see them in there soon.

Thanks for sharing this!

I am applauding inside because I have a BOA $1K spend to cover and this will certainly help. I was thinking I could cover the electricity bill through DEC and get this done and DONE, but now will split the spend with this because of an upcoming road trip where we can use the Fuel Everywhere (works so well with a $75 fillup).

Hoping the inventory holds til tomorrow! Thanks DOC. 🙂

Can’t believe I’m saying this but I need a break from these gift cards for a little bit. These Staples/OD offers have been coming out weekly for months. I get a little paranoid that it will raise a red flag with Chase if I keep spending hundreds on this every single week.

bro when WMNM was a thing I’d do 10k a week at OD/Staples, no problem. Just don’t buy more than your credit limit in any month and they wont flag you….probably.
