How about a bailout for all of us 1099 workers?

Count me in. Lost half my projects due to cancelled events, money that comes in throughout the year so pretty much 75% of my income for the year. Sux. But as long as my spouse’s job keeps on, even with a one day a week furlough, things will work out.

1000 check might not be a lot but it sounds sensible to me!

That is good news indeed for AA.
That virtually guarantees that they will be given a bailout by the party that loves tax cuts for billionaires.

Also the same party has asked Congress to suspend constitutional liberties. That party whose members arm themselves to the teeth to prevent government overreach.

Should we at least entertain the idea that maybe the Republican party wanted the virus to spread to use as an excuse for power grab? Is trump incompetent or sinister?

Or are conspiracy theories only allowed for right wing nut jobs?

Or did the Libs do it to tank the markets to win election? Stupid theories go either way.
You always feel a need to politicize things with these stupid comments.
Both sides do it. I get sick of it from both sides even though I’m a Republican. Republicans are equally as guilty.
I’m just so tired of all this hate spreading and division caused by both sides thinking they have some moral high ground to fight from.
The only losers in this are Americans. Russia must love watching us self hate.
Tone it down from both sides and realize we are all Americans first.

You know someone is going to latch on to that …

Right or left, conspiracy theories land everywhere 🙂

A conspiracy theory should at least have a sound conclusion to be more than a baseless opinion. The coronavirus has triggered a recession which more or less guarantees Trump won’t be re-elected, thus the “power grab” you speculate on has a very short term affect.

Sure definitely possible. Other theories of equal weight would include (extraterrestrial) aliens, mole people, the wrath of the flying spaghetti monster, and/or Skynet. Personally, my money’s on the mole people.

When government ordered shutdowns of entire industries and many businesses that is not a free market or fair play. These businesses don’t need help because of their business decisions but because government banned them operating overnight. Do you really think republicans wanted the government to save sears last year or now want some companies to receive help because of unprecedented government ordered shutdowns?

You seem to hate bailouts but people have been getting bailed out for 70 years in the form of welfare. Unlike loans which are paid back with interest no one pays back welfare. Are people not going to be bailed out by government too with checks.

AA doesn’t need a bailout because it has billions in cash to make loan and lease payments on planes, maintain and store their fleet and pay terminal leases. They wanted government help so they could continue payroll for their flight attendants, office staff and pilots. Given the bad press and false narrative pushed by anti business groups and the media they will now just temporarily lay off everyone and wait it out. They were trying to prevent people being unemployed and needing government assistance but special interests made it untenable without strings that will cripple their ability to make sound business decisions going forward. People complained about airlines charging baggage fees and having narrow seats and less leg room but banning the above if they take government money will only mean they are more likely to be in trouble. For all the complaints airfare was never cheaper for people because of these things,

Problem is the taxpayers shouldn’t be funding flight attendants’ paychecks while ignoring their restaurant waiters, dry cleaners, retail clerks, and event staff. If we do anything at all (which we should), it needs to be well thought out to take care of everyone affected, not channel the money into some of the wealthiest corporations.
