- On my mind (#Bonvoyed! edition) by Frequent Miler. Greg is right in that pre-merger a lot of things went wrong IT wise, the key difference is that the customer service department were given the tools to fix those issues without a long wait. I think the IT is still much worse than it was and customer service is almost extinct.
- How Not to Acknowledge a Data Breach by Krebs On Security. Won’t be interesting to a lot of readers, but I like the work Krebs does.

Thanks for the Tom Scott YouTube channel post. Although the subject matter of the particular one that you posted was *meh*, he is a very engaging presenter. I watched several other (more interesting, IMHO) posts on the channel and was very impressed. Thanks again for broadening my horizons.
Was Google paying debit card fees or credit card fees on Alliant transactions?
I wonder with some of these smaller CUs and banks whether Google Wallet is coding correctly. We sometimes focus on maximizing with the big banks that we often forget about the smaller CUs and banks which may have somewhat marginal bonuses but can be exploitable. Alliant was the rare case of a good bonus and exploitable. OTOH, I don’t want to necessarily burn my credit by opening credit cards with First Regional Bank that offers 1.5% but works as debit on Venmo and Paypal, for instance.
I really doubt they care. Unlike what you expect with Dodd-Frank, the fees might not be that far apart TBH – rule exemption for smaller institutions.
Finished the article on KrebsOnSecurity, good read, thanks for sharing Will.
TL;DR: Wipro fucked up and their COO doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about.
Also, TIL the actual meaning of zero-day vulnerabilities.
If anyone has a unicorn like this that has limits but wants to make more- I would be willing to pay a percentage for you to share it with me. For something like this deal I would offer as much as 50-60% of my profits in perpetuity, could pay a couple months worth in advance, and would sign an informal NDA to protect your secret. Email (email removed) to find out if I have access to the necessary stuff to pull off your deal.
Good luck with that buddy.
Wait, what? I’m no lawyer, but this sounds an awful lot like conspiracy to defraud. And there’s nothing informal about signing an NDA.
Don’t post this sort of stuff on this blog. This is an open community. If people want to share deals that’s fine, but you can find somewhere else to connect.
Sorry Will- not trying to cause any issues. Please delete.
All good, better to leave it up so others know. Wasn’t having a go at you either
IINM Alliant hack lasted longer than the ExtrasMC hack, when Alliant warned those MSing on GCM and GCc and quit paying 3% for GC purchases, I thought the other kept secret would quit working but it lasted a lot longer than expected. When fragile deals are kept out of public forums, they tend to last longer.
So far, loopholes that are kept out of public forums continue to remain alive. MPD is good at reporting them when they’re dead.
Were you aware of this before it died? How did you find out about it?
I discovered it by trial and error and soon as I found out it worked, I kept on doing it till it died 🙁 I knew it was very fragile and can possibly die any moment especially when the CU quit paying 3% on GC orders.
I’ve discovered unicorns simply by trial and error and following hints on “crumbs” left by people on discussion boards. I don’t ask knowing they won’t tell me, I do my research and trial n error until I find out what others are doing.
Thanks, that is what I was hoping you would say. Gives hope that the things I do will eventually turn up a unicorn for myself.
Alliant deal just makes me wonder what other hacks are being kept secret that a few people are making tens of thousands of dollars doing.
It makes you wonder what kind of lazy asses were running that credit union who didn’t see what was going on.
That’s the reward for testing — you find an unknown unicorn and you can make a fortune
