- Coming Monday 6 May – Ebates 20th Birthday! by Tagging Miles. We will have a dedicated post on this when it goes live, but might be worth holding off on purchases if it’s likely the merchant you’re purchasing from will be included (difficult to really know but if a merchant usually offers 5% then it’s unlikely to offer 20% for example).
- Hyatt’s New Hotel in Europe is a Bargain at 8,000 Points per Night!! by Will Run For Miles. Hotels in Budapest are relatively inexpensive anyway but 8,000 points still seems like great value.
- Expecting an Ebates/Rakuten Quarterly Payment? Choose an eGift Card with up to a 15% Boost (Bonus) by Travel With Grant. I wasn’t targeted, was anybody else? Also congratulations to Grant for 6 years of blogging.
- American Airlines Now Lets You Volunteer for Bump Compensation Electronically by View From The Wing. Surprised it has taken them this long to add this functionality.

William Charles thanks for linking to my Ebates/Rakuten eGC redemption post. The quarter just started, so more people should receive an eGC offer if they qualify for one. I didn’t qualify the last 2-3 quarters.
Thanks again for the birthday wishes, when is the DOC blogiversary / birthday?
do you think you need a minimum payout $ amount to get the offers? although most of the merchants which offer high bonus amounts are at risk of filing bankruptcy at any minute, Nike excepted.
I believe you need a $5.00 minimum cash back amount to get paid each quarter. If you do not have enough cash back, it will roll over and count toward the next quarter.
Good deal but somewhat worthless for me since I get Amex MR instead of straight cash back.
Grant Looks like 12/20/2012 would be the DoC blogiversary IMO. But the domain was registered in 2007??? William Charles Did the site see a few owners, or redo’s?
One of the first posts I found: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/get-free-credit-report/ 2 comments. Now DoC sneezes and he gets 20 comments in a day. 🙂
Not sure actually, I always forget. Maybe October? Haha
Delta lets you volunteer online but I’ve never actually seen that selection used — I volunteered for $200 once, never was notified. At the gate they asked for volunteers starting at $600 and ended up paying me and two others $1000 each. Not sure what me selecting $200 online did….
They pay all bumps the same amount as the highest. You are fortunate someone held out :p
I had a similar experience with Alaska. Volunteered during online check-in for $300, gate agent offered me $500 when I arrived which I accepted.
United also has the voluntary bump process which shows at check in on mobile app. They offered points or cash. For my flight they offered 650, 750, 800. I did custom 1200 and it was accepted; however, the bump wasn’t needed.
your 1200 offer was accepted, but my understanding is its like a bidding process, and they will take whoever bids less. so if someone else put in $1000, they’d get the bump before you
Seems pretty logical from their end. I was the only person called to the gate podium so my competition was almost none existent.
