RoomiPay Now Offering Rent Payments Via Credit Card With Flat 2% Fee, Requires Verifications

Earlier this month RoomiPay announced that they would be charging a flat 2% fee for paying your rent for a credit card. Previously they allowed a set number of people the ability to pay a 0% fee each month, then it would increase to 2% and then finally 3%. Users will also need to complete some verification steps to be able to use the service.  Urbanr has the lowest fees for rent payments at 1.5%, but that requires the landlord to sign up as well. The other option is Plastiq, the standard fee is 2.5% but they often have discounts make that cheaper (e.g currently you pay no fee when using Masterpass, up to $500).

Readers wanting to use RoomiPay can do so here. Our full review of the service can be found here.

Urbanr payments are being suspended for June, so if you have a due date close to say May 29, there’s a strong chance it will not process.
Definitely re-route your rent payments planned for June as the service will be terminated and not allow any June rent payments to process until their system upgrades.
There should be a dedicated post coming soon.

Does roomipay screen the landlord? I need to pay rent to my sole proprietorship (which has the same name as me. Would they block that?

Yeah, they have been doing that for the past couple of months. Better to send to someone else.

FYI Urbanr “suspended” payment functionality this past weekend, with no notice to anyone (tenants or landlords).

Indeed, one wouldn’t even guess that was happening, as the site would simply throw up a “authorization error” when you tried to pay.

No ETA on restoring service.

These sites simply aren’t prepared for gaming / exploitation.

Exactly why you shouldn’t trust that it’ll work. If you use it then pay well in advance and check every month
