[Rumor] Citi Considering New Premium Credit Card ‘Citi Explore’

A OMaaT reader received a survey from Citi regarding a new premium credit card called ‘Citi Explore’, if introduced I suspect this would replace the Citi Prestige as that premium card is no longer accepting applications and you can’t product change to it. Details of the Citi Explore card are as follows:

  • $450 annual fee
  • $300 travel credit reimbursed annually
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 3x points on travel and dining in the US and abroad
    • 2x points on fitness club and gym memberships
    • 1x points on all other purchases
  • Points worth 50% more when redeeming for travel via Citi ThankYou Rewards portal
  • 10 Priority Pass lounge visits per year (another variation has unlimited visits without the 2x on fitness/gym)

I’m very skeptical about this rumor, it looks like a small child has put together the survey based on the fonts and some of the other choices made. That being said, this is Citi so that might actually indicate this is legit. You’ll notice there is no mention of the 4th night free benefit the Prestige currently offers. This card basically just replaces that with an extra $50 travel credit, this card is also basically just a clone of the Chase Sapphire Reserve card. Did anyone else receive this survey or something similar?

Without the 4th night free benefit this would just be a poor copy of the CSR.

80% of the users here cannot even apply for CSR so it does not matter if it is a good or bad copy of CSR. Yesterday I applied for Citi TY Premier, not sure if it was a mistake, shd have waited for citi explore. But then this offer was expiring in couple of days.

2X fitness club and gym memberships – queue minions “oooooaaaahhh” lmao
unless someone is taking a lot of classes – I can’t see how this would very valuable or accumulate pts as fast as dining out or gas, etc How much are average monthly fees $70-$145?

Perhaps if it was 8X or you could get points for protein powders, supplements, exercise equipment, personal trainer (not exactly merch codes for those). Hard to see this as a marketable “category”

If this card also comes with $100 reduction in annual fee for citigold/citipriorty, then I’m all in.

I can see them using this as a big push toward their premier checking. Somehow painting it as an improvement.

Does that mean there is no longer a point for signing up the priority account package to take advantage of the reduced Prestige AF (was waiting for the Prestige to come back with sign up bonus)?

Come on card issuers, come out with a 5% travel and dining card already. I’ll be signing that up for sure.

If this card launches exactly as described with a $450af, it wouldn’t even be able to compete with the $195 af PRG, especially with the anticipated PRG enhancements.

Since this will invariably be under TY 24 month language, most on here won’t even be eligible for signup bonus if they wanted.

I think I will keep my Prestige.
