Southwest Extends Travel Funds

Southwest has announced that it will be extending the expiry date on travel funds as follows:

  • Customers’ funds that have expired or will expire between March 1-May 31, 2020, will now expire June 30, 2021
  • Any newly created travel fund because of a flight cancellation between March

This will happen automatically, but Southwest is stating it will take their technology team a few weeks to make these changes. Southwest is also letting you change flights for free (including any fare difference).

God bless Southwest for these policies. We should only bail them out and let the others fail.

Any word on the SW CP and an/or extension ? This is one thing I figured someone would have brought it up or asked.

Should have it through 2021 either way but with the unknowns about domestic – and possible grounding of domestic flights – not sure we want to really fly across the country.

hmm, so if my travel was canceled in January of this year and the funds were due to expire in January of 2021, these won’t be extended under the current policy 🙁

If my flight gets cancelled, don’t I get a refund? How is it a generous extension if they cancel the flight?

Wait, so if I have some funds expiring in Oct, I can book a new ticket now, cancel, and all funds will now expire next June?

I assume that refers to a cancelled flight, not you cancelling a ticket for a flight that is operating.

I have $115 flight credit that expires on June 15, just past the end of the current deadline. I expect the deadline will get extended based on the current trajectory of everything, but it would have been nice to be in the initial phase. I am debating if I should book a likely-to-cancel flight that costs close to $115 to try to get it auto-extended, or just not worry about it now.

I think it’s referring to us cancelling po ur booked flights. I guess we’ll know more in a few weeks when we see if dates were changed.

I was wondering the same thing, I have $350 expiring in 8/1/2020, I planned to use them, but not likely now. Will have to try to book some tickets and cancel them and see if funds get extended.

Cheers,

Sweet. I was gonna call and ask for an extension anyway and figured I would get one, but glad they saved me the call.

I hoped and they granted!
Saves me about $200 on a fund expiring 4/7

Just a DP – had $155 expiring on March 7th. On March 6th, was told no way to extend and only option was a LUV voucher minus the $100 fee. So I had them do that. Called yesterday and they will not re-issue the full amount of $155 even though it falls within their parameters.
