Our Verdict

This is better than the 100,000 point launch bonus we saw yesterday that is publicly available. Some people have received this offer even though they already applied for the new card, American Express doesn’t match bonuses but it’s frequently possible to get them to offer courtesy points. I suspect this is an offer we will see publicly available sometime after 8/26, but that’s just an educated guess at this stage. I do think the card is worth picking up if you can use the $300 in statement credits and won’t be eligible after 8/26. If you are still eligible after 8/26 then I do think it’s possible we will see an even bigger bonus than 125,000 points (maybe 100,000 + free night) at some stage in the future. Before applying make sure you read these things everybody should know about American Express credit cards.

I just received a mailer for 125k points after 5k spend. Do you think the mailer code is transferrable or locked down?

Got the offer this week and clicked on the link to apply. I walked away and closed the tab in my browser while I did more research on the card. Clicking the link a second time defaults to 100K offer. AXP says I can’t get the offer back, Starwood just transfers me around to people who don’t know.

Update: I still had two loyalty numbers. One for SPG & one for Mariott. After clicking the link once, the subsequent clicks didn’t carry forward the correct loyalty number. Once I entered my SPG loyalty number, the offer was presented again.

I received a targeted mailer for this 125000 point bonus, but I currently have the Marriott business card, which I signed up for and got a bonus on in the spring. Would I still be eligible for this bonus with the new rules that started on 8/26?

Called and talked to customer service. Wasn’t able to match, but she did give me 3k points as a goodwill gesture, which was better than nothing.

I’ve tried calling any asking for any goodwill gesture but they always tell me there is nothing they can do but they would be more then happy to put in a special promotions team investigation (aka worthless). Any tips on how to get them to give you some points vs just kicking the can and referring you to someone else so they can deal with it… Thanks

Got the email offer from Marriott (tied with my Marriott member number). Just applied for the Luxury card 1 day earlier =.= . Anyway it’s very weird as the email said 125k points, when I click on the Apply link and input my Marriott member number, it’s only 100k points.

It is true. I am dealing with that right now. If anyone has a solution, please let me know. I want to open the card but only for the targeted 125,000 email offer I got.

I applied the card yesterday and got the pop up window saying I don’t qualify for the bonus. Today I used another link and applied on my phone and was approved without the pop up window. Will I still receive the bonus? Thanks!

I got this offer via e-mail yesterday. I have no Amex cards and haven’t stayed at a Marriott property since last year.

Could anyone check if there were any email or notification after self-refer on other amex cards? Was wondering if it is possible to do it on this spg card.

Ive done self refer on other cards and there is no notification. Points just show up a few days later. Applied for spg lux too quickly on Thursday without checking my SPG Pers referrals. Often best to be patient.
