Our Verdict

This is better than the 100,000 point launch bonus we saw yesterday that is publicly available. Some people have received this offer even though they already applied for the new card, American Express doesn’t match bonuses but it’s frequently possible to get them to offer courtesy points. I suspect this is an offer we will see publicly available sometime after 8/26, but that’s just an educated guess at this stage. I do think the card is worth picking up if you can use the $300 in statement credits and won’t be eligible after 8/26. If you are still eligible after 8/26 then I do think it’s possible we will see an even bigger bonus than 125,000 points (maybe 100,000 + free night) at some stage in the future. Before applying make sure you read these things everybody should know about American Express credit cards.

While better, the card is still pretty shitty.

Agree. It doesn’t pass the sniff test.

People often keep premium cards like CSR, Plat, and Prestige, since they are good cards. This card sucks, Amex/Marriott need to do more than increase the bonus to make it attractive enough to keep past year one.

Email title “New Card, Exclusive Offer – 125,000 Bonus Points”

thank u. huge help. people dont need to go on a wild chase to find the promo.

How do we get the promo?

I don’t have neither the Marriott Business nor the SPG Luxury. To get both, would I have to apply for them tomorrow? What if I apply for both cards on the same day after 8/26. Would I still be able to get both cards?

Yes. I was going to do the same thing, but I’m leaning towards waiting to see if the SPG Luxury has a better offer in the future. If you qualify for the Lux version after 8/26, a 150K sign-up bonus with 5K spend or a 125K bonus with 5K spend AND a $100 statement credit wouldn’t be far-fetched offers in the future.

Neither wife nor I targeted. We both have sock-drawered SPG cards.

I received the email, but I applied for the 100k yesterday. Noooooo. I called and Amex basically said “oh well. Too bad.”

I believe practically all CC issuers allow you to cancel a card you applied for within 30 days.

I think the hard pull on your credit report won’t go away though.

DP – 2 people in our household got this email. Both were brand new SPG accounts with no Marriott or SPG credit cards who recently opened their SPG account in order to take advantage of the buy points promo. They maxed out the 30k points allowed per account to take advantage of the household combination feature before the merge.

Congratulations! None of my such accounts is targeted 🙁

A third member of my household just got one of these emails too. Also set up to buy 30k points recently. Hold tight, it seems they are sending them out in batches. Yours might be on the way.

Hi Rob, Could you fwd that mail to me so that i could apply. My mail- saphcmprj@gmaildotcom. Thanks

I just received my card. Going to call and see what they offer. Card is plastic and looks like my regular SPG card except the numbers are on the back.

Nice info. I wonder why exactly its a luxury card.

I don’t know. Don’t know why I’m kind of disappointed. Lol

Could anyone check if there were any email or notification after self-refer on other amex cards? Was wondering if it is possible to do it on this spg card.

Ive done self refer on other cards and there is no notification. Points just show up a few days later. Applied for spg lux too quickly on Thursday without checking my SPG Pers referrals. Often best to be patient.

Just got the offer via email. Have 8 amex cards….6 opened this year and no spg or Marriott cards.

I got this offer via e-mail yesterday. I have no Amex cards and haven’t stayed at a Marriott property since last year.

I applied the card yesterday and got the pop up window saying I don’t qualify for the bonus. Today I used another link and applied on my phone and was approved without the pop up window. Will I still receive the bonus? Thanks!

Got the email offer from Marriott (tied with my Marriott member number). Just applied for the Luxury card 1 day earlier =.= . Anyway it’s very weird as the email said 125k points, when I click on the Apply link and input my Marriott member number, it’s only 100k points.

It is true. I am dealing with that right now. If anyone has a solution, please let me know. I want to open the card but only for the targeted 125,000 email offer I got.

Friends, I want to apply to this 125k targeted bonus. Someone please forward me the mail to saphcmprj@gmaildotcom. Appreciate it,thanks.

Called and talked to customer service. Wasn’t able to match, but she did give me 3k points as a goodwill gesture, which was better than nothing.

I’ve tried calling any asking for any goodwill gesture but they always tell me there is nothing they can do but they would be more then happy to put in a special promotions team investigation (aka worthless). Any tips on how to get them to give you some points vs just kicking the can and referring you to someone else so they can deal with it… Thanks

I received a targeted mailer for this 125000 point bonus, but I currently have the Marriott business card, which I signed up for and got a bonus on in the spring. Would I still be eligible for this bonus with the new rules that started on 8/26?
