[Targeted] AmEx Offer: Olive Garden, Spend $40+ & Receive $10 Statement Credit/1,000 Membership Rewards

This is no longer available, view more amex offers here.

The Offer

No direct link, targeted offer

  • Get a one-time $10 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $40 or more in-restaurant at Olive Garden by 6/18/2018
  • Some people have the same deal but for 1,000 Membership Rewards instead of $10

The Fine Print

  • Valid in-restaurant only.
  • Not valid on online purchases.
  • Excludes physical gift cards purchased online.
  • Not valid for e-gift card purchases.
  • Valid at any participating location in the US and US Territories.
  • Excludes all other Darden brands. Offer is non-transferable

Our Verdict

So this excludes physical gift cards purchased online, but ones purchased in restaurant will work fine. These aren’t profitable for public resale anyway. Olive Garden often offers a $10 bonus gift card when purchasing $50+ in cards (live now, remember you need to purchase in store).

Can multiple $10 “bonus” cards be combined? I don’t see any terms on their website, but in my experience for these things, they often say just 1 bonus card per meal.

Is there a way of triggering Amex offers that still works in 2018?

Tried to be sneaky and bought a $40 Olive Garden gift card from olive gardens website but it didn’t trigger the congrats email and on the charge it says
Merchandise & Supplies – Internet purchase
So I guess they can tell.
Bottom line it’s this time of year when you come to olive garden with 10+ Amex cards and try to explain the register lady why you want to buy one $40 gift card with each card.
By the way try the Braised beef and Tortelloni, it’s my favorite.

I dont think there is anything wrong with buying gifts cards with multiple Amex cards. Like being mentioned above, the issue is that the gift certificate $10 has very small time window you need to spend. In the past, I always forget to use those. It would be a nicer deal if they give $10 GC instead.

You can buy any combination of gift cards in one transaction and just split the total $40 to each card. I did this before in OG and other places with over 10 cards.

be careful, better only one $50 per trans, since the promo is $10 bonus card for $50+ gc purchase

I go into PF Changs with 10 Amex cards every year. Break up the amounts to get the bonus cards. As long as you go in when they’re not packed, they’ll have no issues.

yeah I guess it’s only worth it if you got the 1k MR offer.

Why? I have the $10 back. Isn’t that the same as 1K points?

I buy the gift cards at Olive Garden and use them at other Darden restaurants, mostly Seasons 52.

well, for 1k MR i would tuff it out to eat there once… for $10 it’s not worth the barf.

So you’re saying that 1K is more than $10? I don’t have a MR Amex, only cash ones so I don’t know, which is why I am asking.

And you don’t have to eat there, you can do Longhorn, Seasons 52, the Capital Grill, Cheddar’s, Yard House, Bahama Breeze, and Eddie V’s are all part of the Darden group. While the Amex offer doesn’t work at those, the gift card from OG can be used there (but not the promotional $10 card, that will be only for OG).

most people value MR at 1.6-1.9 cents each so yes, 1k MR would be more valuable than $10.

That makes sense. Thank you for that. I use UR points for my travel needs so I never really thought about the Amex side since I didn’t have a MR card.

If you use them as airline miles yes. Sometimes substantially more though I find people’s quoted value to be a little off (based on a RT first class trip to Thailand or someplace I will never go). I would say $15-20 or so in airline miles. However if you are doing cash redemption the $10 is almost better than 1K MR because outside of airline miles MR points are kind of useless and I would rather have $10 off now than paying $40 and trying to redeem it later. (If this makes any sense)

So I can buy a $50 GC (in restaurant only ), and get back $10 statement credit and also get a $10 GC? Is that right ?

$10 is not really a gift card, it’s a coupon with a pretty tight expiration date and it is only usable inside and only in OG. So prepare to visit it pretty often to use them up.

Yep, you generally always get any specials or deals businesses are offering STACKED with the Amex offers. It’s almost always worked that way for me and many others in the past.
