The Offer

No direct link, targeted Amex Offer

There are two Amex Offers targeted to some people for Marriott Hotels, valid through April 15, 2020:

  • Spend $250 on room rate & room charges at participating properties and get $50 back.
  • Spend $300 on room rate & room charges at participating properties and get $45 back.

The Fine Print

  • Offer valid only at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories.
  • Reservations must be made online at Marriott.com, via the Marriott Bonvoy App or by calling 1-888-236-2427.
  • Excludes Marriott Vacation Club, Design Hotels, Protea Hotels, Marriott Executive Apartments, Homes & Villas by Marriott International and Vistana Signature Experiences.
  • Excludes gift card purchases.
  • Not valid for online retail purchases or purchases of Marriott Bonvoy points.
  • Offer only valid on room rate and room charges.
  • Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date.

Our Verdict

Myself and others aren’t seeing this, but it’s been reported on GCGalore. I’m guessing it’s highly targeted, let us know if you find it.

In the past, buying a Marriott gift card at the front desk worked to trigger the Amex Offer credit (despite the terms). In my prior experience, the main issue in doing so is that the front desk often doesn’t have gift card or doesn’t know how to sell them; asking for a manager might help.

Got it on BCE. Can I split payment so I maximize this offer and put the rest on another card?

I have the offer- but cannot add it. Click on the button and nothing happens. Tried multiple different browsers, my phone, my PC, old Amex interface- none work. Anyone else having this issue?

In fact I cannot add any offer to any of my cards. Been that way for a few hours. Chatted in and they couldn’t either. No idea what’s going on. Hopefully just a website glitch and not Amex review or something

Just got off with Amex. They said they have been having a technical glitch w some accounts whereby a “ghost” account is created by the system and they have to delete it. No idea what that means but they did and everything works now.

Got the $50 off $250 on platinum and EDP, didn’t get it on the Bonvoy biz which would have been better

I got $45/$300 on two of my cards, nothing on P2 or P3 AU cards, but the $250 offer would have been much better for me (even if the payout %-age was less). I have a Marriott stay in a couple weeks that will be just over $250 and I do not have any more planned in the timeframe. Maybe another trip will come up, I will have to decide if I want to use a subpar card to get most of the way toward $300, or just go with my usual hotel card.

Do Marriott’s sell GCs that I could use to bump me over the $300 mark?

They are hit or miss… some do some don’t. Center City Philadelphia does not but Princeton NJ does. Best to call the hotel directly if you aren’t sure before you go visit one solely to buy a GC.
