The Offer

  • Chase is offering some the following bonus on the Southwest Plus card. Bonus is as follows 30,000 points + companion pass good through 2/28/22.

Card Details

Our Verdict

They offered a similar thing back at the start of 2019 and at the end of last year. You only need 100,000 points to get the companion pass this year. You’re much better off signing up for a personal and business card to hit the 100,000 points required for the pass. This would give you a lot more points and also a companion pass through the end of 2022.

I got a mailer a few days ago, but threw it away. Any change Chase will be able to pull up the offer if I give them a call?

Wow, I just got the mail yesterday too! Would this be better than getting the 80K points without CP?

For the 80k offer the spend requirement is $10k. You’ll have 90k points after that finished. Spend another $10k for another 10k points, and you got a companion pass + 100k points, after a total $20k spend.

For this offer, spend $5k and you got a companion pass + 35k points.

Question is if 65k extra points is worth that $15k extra spend – it’s “just” a 4.33x multiplier, so it depends. There are cards with 5% ongoing spend. Many cards have 20%+ return for signups. Cap1 has $250 on $500, that’s 50% return!

Alternatively, signing up for a business + personal card at the same time gives you 127k point after $7k spend if you only satisfy the low spend requirements, or 215k points after $35k spend after the high spend bonus, gives you companion pass either way.

I rather do this as I go straight to the CP. In the long run, it makes sense cause it’s hard to get for most people anyway

Don’t overlook that this offer’s CP expires Feb 2022, but if you it with the 80k bonus you get it till end of 2022.

What do you have to do to get the bonus, as in spending requirements?

This is a targeted offer for people to open a new account, not targeting existing card holders.

How are people being targeted?

My wife and I both got the offer. No idea on how we are targeted, but we both have SW FF accounts with a balance of 8-11kish, we have both flown several flights in the last year, and I took advantage of the companion pass in jan/feb offer last fall, and she is listed as my companion. We do not have any Chase cards either.
