I have this on my Rewards+ card, and Just wanted to mention that because this is actually 5% total up to $75 (“Earnings associated with this offer will equal 5% back, up to $75 in total on eligible purchases”), that includes the rebate you normally get. So for me, that means it’s based on the extra 4% back, or charges up to $1875, not $1500 as you’d normally expect it to be with a $75 limit. This is typical for Citi deals like this. Good news for me, since I have to pay over $2k in estimated taxes, so I can charge more.

The PayPal bonus for Custom Cash is 5%, not 4%.

So is it 5% on top of what you would normally get on the card, or in total? In the past with Citi offers like this, it’s been that you get a total of 5%. So on the deals where it’s up to $25, you can spend $625 rather than the $500 you’d expect.

Note my quoted section from the offer above — “Earnings associated with this offer will equal 5% back”

Using Custom Cash through PayPal at CVS generated 5% ThankYou points for the drugstore category and 5% PayPal statement credit.

I can’t get my Citi Double Cash MC to show up in my Paypal payment options when trying to make a tax payment on payUSAtax. It is definitely loaded into my Paypal wallet – I tried removing and adding it back a few times. It also shows up as a payment option on other websites that use Paypal.

Anyone else experience this? All the other cards in my Paypal wallet are options, just not the Citi Double Cash MC!

I have the exact same issue as you. My Citi DC shows up just fine in PayPal when using Pay1040.

It shows up at Pay1040 as well but the payment won’t go through. Also tried at ACI and same issue as payUSAtax. Thinking I will just buy 3 x $500 prepaid VGC at vanillagift.com and make 3 separate payments.

Eric Ryan

I purchased a Visa gc in CVS today using the QR code of the PayPal app with no issue. Once my statement posts in March, I plan to do this once more.

Another data point:
As I described earlier, I made purchases at CVS (In store) using my Citi Custom Cash card through PayPal.
My statement cycle has now ended, and on the last day of the cycle I was credited 5% of my PayPal purchase (“PayPal Purchase Bonus”). I also got 5x Citi points for the drugstore purchases.
Today I’ll do another $500, then after my statement closes in March another.

I remember I had this offer for my custom cash CC – Now that I am planning to use, I have no record of it!

Any data (or guesses) as to whether this will work with PayPal Bill Pay?

It doesn’t seem to work with PayPal Bill Pay. I did about $500 in PayPal purchases (using the app at CVS, getting 5X for drugstores on my Custom Cash) and a $500 bill pay. I got a credit of $50, not $100.

Gerald, has your statement closed since you made both purchases? Was the 5X just part of your regular cc rewards? Wait. It sounds like you did get the pp credit. You made 2x$500 purchases. Five percent of $1k is $50, which is what you got.

[face palm] Of course. I must have been (wishfully) thinking 10%.

It worked for me. I paid my electric co w pp bill pay before the statement closed. Bonus posted as “PayPal Purchase Bonus”. You do have to wait until your statement closes.

My Citi Custom Cash card has this offer this time.
My statement closed yesterday.

I had purchased a $50 Amazon gift card and $160 Target gift cards in CVS Pharmacy using Paypal app.
I received both the Paypal 5% and the top-category 5%.
The Paypal was a statement credit.
The top-category spend (drugstores) showed a Thank You Points which I promptly redeemed for statement credit.

Citi got it right this time.

I will be buying $500 VISA gift cards on statement #2 and statement #3 before this offer ends March 31.

Citi is such a shady bank. I bought (2) flight tickets using paypal, no credits for both of the purchases. The transactions were not marked with paypal. This has never happened to me with all other banks.

I don’t understand how the transactions were not marked with Paypal?
That is more a fault of the airline and/or Paypal then Citi.
I can say that this has never ever happened to me when using Paypal.

Same situation here. Citi customer service and Paypal customer service pointed at each other. No resolution.
