[Targeted] Citi ThankYou Premier 50,000 Points Bonus, No Restrictive Language

The Offer

This is a targeted offer that has been sent out via snail mail

  • Signup for the Citi Premier card and get 50,000 ThankYou points as a bonus after you spend $4,000 within the first three months

Card Details

  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 3x on travel
    • 2x on dining and entertainment
    • 1x on all other purchases
  • Annual fee of $95 is waived first year

Our Verdict

This bonus does not contain the following language:

Unfortunately the mailer contains a 12 digit unique code, these can’t be shared so only good for the original recipient. 50,000 points is great (and available to everybody) but the real deal here is the lack of that 24 month language. Definitely worth doing if you’ve had the Preferred/Premier/Prestige in the last 24 months. Hopefully this is a sign of more of these offers on their way.

Basically, if I got this mailing I don’t need to worry that I got the card within 24 months?

I clicked on the pre-qualified offers page and filled out that application which showed that i was pre-approved for this card and when i clicked on apply now, i saw that it did not show the restrictive language. So this would be another way to get the non-restrictive version without getting any snail mail.

Did Citi take out the price rewind for the new applications ? I’m not seeing anything about price rewind in the benefits.
Also i see public offer of 50K points.

I’ve never received a mailer from Citibank for any type of card. How do I get on their list?

I already have a few of their credit cards, but no bank account with them.

Need some input from DoC pros:
Which of the following card you suggest I should apply for next:
1. Citi ThankYou Premier
2. Wells Fargo Propel
3. Citi American Airlines Platinum

Depending on your area, freeze Experian (can get free 30 day trial) if possible then apply for ty premier, 9 days later apply for Citi aa, unfreeze / cancel Experian then do WF propel world.

Oh and the answer is definitely all the above. I just gave you the order I’d do it in in terms of how I value each and least amount of inquiries to credit bureaus.

Thanks Jessica
In my area all of them check TU.
Good tip about Experian trial though.
My application timing is limited by required spend as I don’t MS, so I can only apply for one card every 2-3 months.

TY Premier for sure then. That way you can get the card and reset the clock for 24 months. AA mailers are easy to come by right now, so you can do those later, most likely. I’d probably do Propel World card after TY Premier just to reset that WF 1 card every 16 month timer, then stack up the AA miles with mailers from code sharing thread on reddit. Good luck!

freezing credit bureaus is really not necessary and in my experience causes more issues than anything else. its not like capital one is in the talks here…

DW & I applied for Propel World & TY Premier cards.
Both went to pending but Citi immediately called and approved after asking few basic info.
Called WF Propel World rep but even after verifying all the info they still could not approve and application was sent to “underwriter”.
We are not LOL/24 by any means.

you need the wf propel first assuming you’re beyond 5/24, and citi biz thank you, as it has 20k TYP and can be matched to 40, and they do not follow 24 month rule, so why not get the #1 choice while ur at it

Doc, the Thank you points mailers contain 12 digit codes, not 9.
AA mailers typically contain 9 digit codes.

9 digit codes are transferable, 12 digit codes are not.

Well, what if they’ve started sending 9 digit TY mailers? I mean why would he say 9 then?

Because Will makes typos quite often. 😉

It’s clearly a 12-digit code. Even the linked hat tip says so.

its a small typo, the main thing is he said its not transferable which is accurate.

Because we love Will’s typos.

Citi is after me to upgrade to premier from preferred. They also have an ongoing earn 5x at home improvement stores. Finally, amex auto enrolled me pay over time for my BRG. They call it select and pay. It’s a new service.

I don’t know about for the TYP cards, but for the 9-digit AAdvantage mailers the code can be shared. It’s the 12-digit mailers that cannot be shared.

Correct, 9 digit ones CAN be shared for AA

I think it was either a typo or misinformation fed to doc
