Our Verdict

Looks like you need to have received an e-mail to eligible, unsure what the subject line is unfortunately.

DP: By happenstance without knowing about any of this, I made a Delta purchase on March 12, changed the flight on March 17, and today received a notification saying I received 2,500 miles “for managing my flight in the Fly Delta app”. I have the app installed. When I realized March 17 that I needed to change the flight, I logged in and looked at my flight and tried to ‘manage’ it via the app, but it wouldn’t let me change it that way. So I changed the flight by logging onto Delta.com on my PC. But nonetheless that was my path, and I checked and my free 2,500 miles did indeed post. I am 100% sure I never received any kind of targeted offer from Delta about this. So others might try for this and see. YMMV.

Why would they give you a bonus to change your flight? How does it benefit them?

It’s to encourage you to use the website rather than tie up the phone lines.

the bonus is for doing it online vs with a CSR

Less phone time equals less money at CSR.

I just don’t understand why they would do anything to encourage changes. While expected in the business, has to be somewhat disruptive to the business model.

I’m baffled why they would pay customers, even in SkyPesos, to change a trip. Perhaps if you change, you’re more likely to fly it vs cancel later? Since it’s targeted to those with reservations, it’s not like they’re trying to encourage people to book who aren’t currently.
