Our Verdict
Reader @capcalhoon got this on the Travel Rewards card and reader JJ on the Customized Cash Rewards card. I’m not sure how widely this offer was sent out.
On almost any card this would be a terrific deal, e.g. on the Travel Rewards card this can amount to 3.5x everywhere, or 4.62x (2.62 + 2 bonus) everywhere for someone who has top Preferred Rewards status (possibly even 6.13x everywhere if the bonus gets multiplied by the status bonus).
Note, the fine print mentions the possibility of receiving a 1099 for the bonus. Typically credit card rewards are not taxable, but it’s possible they’ll treat a bonus differently (though I wouldn’t be surprised if they in fact do not send out a 1099 for the bonus).
